All three OnePlus 9 series devices feature 48MP primary sensors. The primary sensor on the OnePlus 9 Pro is a 7P Sony IMX789 sensor that features f/1.8 aperture, 1/1.43″ sensor size, 1.12µm pixel size, and supports OIS. On the other hand, the primary 48MP sensor on the OnePlus 9 is a 7P Sony IMX689 sensor that features f/1.8 aperture, 1/1.43″ sensor size, 1.12µm pixel size, but it lacks OIS. The OnePlus 9R gets a 6P 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.7 aperture, 0.8µm pixel size, and supports OIS as well as EIS.

The OnePlus 9 Pro and OnePlus 9 get a 50MP 7P Sony IMX766 sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and 1/1.56″ sensor size. While, the OnePlus 9R features a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 123° field-of-view, and f/2.2 aperture.

The OnePlus 9 Pro is the only device in the trio to feature a telephoto lens which is an 8MP shooter with f/2.4 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size, and supports OIS. All three OnePlus 9 series devices offer a 2MP monochrome lens, while the OnePlus 9R offers an additional 5MP macro shooter.

All three devices support phase detection autofocus (PDAF), and continuous auto focus (CAF), but the OnePlus 9 Pro offers laser autofocus (LAF) in addition.

OnePlus 9 Pro vs OnePlus 9 vs OnePlus 9R: Performance

Coming to the performance, the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro pack Qualcomm’s top of the line – Snapdragon 888 SoC under-the-hood. While the OnePlus 9R gets Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, which is a marginal improvement over Qualcomm’s last-gen flagship – Snapdragon 865. The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro offer faster LPDDR5 RAM, while the company has not specified the RAM version for the OnePlus 9R on the product page. All three devices pack UFS 3.1 dual-lane storage and boot Android 11 based OxygenOS 11.

OnePlus 9 Pro vs OnePlus 9 vs OnePlus 9R: Battery

All three OnePlus 9 series devices pack a 4,500mAh battery with 65W Warp Charge 65 fast-charging. The OnePlus 9 Pro supports 50W wireless charging, while the OnePlus 9R doesn’t support it, no surprises there, right? But what’s surprising is the fact that the regular OnePlus 9 supports 15W Qi Wireless charging, BUT only in select regions. OnePlus 9 buyers in India will not be able to enjoy wireless charging.

OnePlus 9, and OnePlus 9 Pro devices come bundled with a Type-C to Type-C charging cable, while the OnePlus 9R will ship with a Type-A to Type-C cable. This might not be a deal-breaker but is certainly dubious considering the company bundled a Type-C to Type-C cable with the OnePlus 8T.
