OnePlus has cancelled the launch event of the OnePlus Ace Pro in China which was set for today at 7 PM local time, which is 4:30 PM IST. Notably, the Ace Pro is reportedly China-only variant of the OnePlus 10T. And this is not a one off incident from OnePlus alone, Motorola also cancelled the launch event yesterday of the Razr 2022 foldable and Moto X30 Pro flagship smartphones at the last minute.

While OnePlus has cancelled the China event, the OnePlus 10T launch event, which will be held in New York today is likely to go on as per schedule, at least for the time being. The OnePlus 10T launch event will also be live streamed in Bengaluru, where OnePlus India is hosting a live screening.

OnePlus Ace Pro, Motorola Razr 2022, X30 Pro Event Cancelled in China

OnePlus official handle on Weibo shared a note on Weibo saying the event has been postponed for some reason and the new launch date will be announced soon. The company said, “We are very sorry that the OnePlus Ace Pro new product launch conference and recent related activities have been postponed for some reason, and follow-up plans will be announced separately.” (machine translated).

On the other hand, Motorola, which was set to launch Razr 2022 and X30 Pro also shared a note on Weibo saying “We are deeply sorry for this, and thank you for your enthusiastic support for Moto’s new products. For information about new products, you can continue to pay attention to the moto official information platform.” (machine translated).

What Could Be The Reason?

While both the companies declined to share any specific reason for the cancellation of the event we are left to guess. Since the supply chain cycle has recovered after Covid-19 hit, we think this might not be the reason behind the cancellation of these events in China. Though, chip shortage remains as a big industry issue and even impacts car manufacturers.

Given the fact that only the China launch has been postponed by OnePlus, the reason for the postponement of these events could be something else, which might be specific to China only. This news has developed only in the past 24 hours when there has been a raise in tensions between China and Taiwan. The tension mounted after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed in Taiwan on Tuesday. And since there is a high alert in China and Taiwan, these brands might have cancelled the launches as a result of these events .
