The rumour mill’s current focus is the upcoming OnePlus 9 series. OnePlus is expected to launch its flagship smartphone series in March. Another smartphone that OnePlus could launch later this year is the OnePlus Nord successor. A new report from Android Central suggests that the next Nord smartphone launching in Q2 of 2021 will be called the OnePlus Nord 2. The report also reveals that the Nord 2 will draw power from a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor. It is currently the flagship chipset in MediaTek’s Dimensity line of 5G chips. It will come with the Mali-G77 GPU as well. Let’s take a look at the leaked OnePlus Nord 2 specifications and launch details.
OnePlus to launch OnePlus Nord 2 in Q2 2021 with MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor
OnePlus will launch the OnePlus Nord 2 in Q2 2021, according to an Android Central report. The report has leaked some key OnePlus Nord 2 specifications ahead of the rumoured launch.
According to Android Central, the Nord 2 will get powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor. The 5G-supported chip is built on a 6nm fabrication. It has a Cortex A78 core clocked at 3.0GHz. The chip also has three Cortex A78 cores clocked at 2.6GHz and four efficiency A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. The SoC also features a Mali-G77 GPU.
It is surprising to see OnePlus launch a smartphone with a MediaTek processor. The company has been launching Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered phones since the original OnePlus 1. Even the Nord line features Snapdragon line of chipsets.
A report from November 2020 claimed that the OnePlus Nord 2 has been codenamed Denniz. Notably, the vanilla OnePlus Nord had the codename Avicii after the late Swedish DJ, so we can very well assume the OnePlus Nord 2 to be codenamed after the late Swedish DJ Denniz Pop.
This is all the details we have about the Nord 2. The upcoming smartphone is tipped to launch in Q2 of 2021. This seems to be slightly earlier than the original OnePlus Nord’s launch, which was hosted virtually in August 2020.
