With the OnePlus Nord CE 5G now among us, it is time for the rumour mill to start churning out information about the next Nord. The latter is expected to be the true successor to the first Nord, and may be called OnePlus Nord 2 to signify that it is not a streamlined and trimmed down version of the Nord lineup, the way the Nord CE 5G appears to be. Now, a leak on Chinese social media platform Weibo by a user who goes by the name Arsenal has claimed that the said OnePlus Nord 2 will apparently be a rebranded future Realme phone – the X9 Pro, to be specific.

While the move is certainly going to be unprecedented if true, it is not entirely out of possibility since both OnePlus and Realme are owned by the same parent company. The leak claims that Realme is making two models of its upcoming X9 Pro, one with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC, and the other with the MediaTek Dimensity 1200. Fundamentally, most core specifications are expected to be the same between the two phones, except for the chipset and the display. For the latter, Arsenal says on Weibo that the Snapdragon 870-powered Realme X9 Pro will apparently feature a dual-curved display, while the MediaTek variant will feature a flat panel.

The report further claims that it is the Snapdragon 870 variant that Realme will sell under its own brand in China, while the MediaTek powered device will apparently be rebranded under the OnePlus brand, and be sold as the OnePlus Nord 2. Other specifications aren’t revealed by Arsenal, but a previous MySmartPrice report had shed light on expected specifications of the Realme X9 Pro. The device is expected to feature a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED 90Hz display, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, a 50MP + 16MP + 2MP triple rear camera setup, a 32MP front camera unit, dual speakers, NFC and a 4,500mAh battery with 65W fast charging.

While the feature set seems exciting enough, it will be interesting to see if the OnePlus Nord 2 is launched as a global variant with a MediaTek chip. OnePlus has typically used Qualcomm processors for its phones that have so far sold in India, and if these leaks turn out to be true, then the Nord 2 will be the first MediaTek powered OnePlus phone in the country.
