ChatGPT has now gone mobile as OpenAI has launched the official iOS app of the AI chatbot. Notably, users could access the chatbot only on a desktop browser before this. Without an official app, both App Store and Play Store were filled with dubious and unsafe apps swindling users of hundreds of dollars in subscriptions. According to the official OpenAI blog post, the new app will be free for all users, ad-free, and allow voice input. The company also mentioned that the app will be initially available only in the US. OpenAI has launched the official iOS app for ChatGPT, it’s much-popular AI chatbot that has taken the world by storm since its launch in November 2022. According to the official blog post, the app comes in response to the immense popularity of the service. According to a report, ChatGPT had 100 million monthly active users in January. The number was achieved in just two months after the launch, making it the fastest-growing application in history.
It makes sense to bring the AI chatbot to iOS first, the market leader in the US with over 50% market share. Though OpenAI has assured that the app is coming to Android OS soon, without revealing the actual timeline of the Android launch.
Just like the desktop counterpart, the ChatGPT app for iOS allows users to ask questions, learn, research, write content, and more. Considering the slow progress in the field of AI by Apple, the official ChatGPT app might find many takers.
OpenAI assures that while using the official app for ChatGPT, it will sync across all your devices and thus maintain the history of your previous interactions on all your devices. Additionally, the app comes with Whisper integration, which is OpenAI’s open-source speech recognition tech. This will allow users to give instructions to the chatbot with their voice.
ChatGPT official app will also offer the latest GPT-4 model to the ChatGPT Plus users. The plus membership of the AI chatbot costs $20 a month and gives access to a deluge of features. These features include priority access to new improvement features, faster response times, general access to ChatGPT even during peak traffic, and more.
The rollout of the official iOS app of ChatGPT has already started in the US today. Open AI has assured that the app will be available in other markets in the coming weeks.
