OPPO launched a new smartphone in its A-series, the OPPO A5s. The phone is an upgraded version of the OPPO A5 that debuted in India, last year. The OPPO A5s has already received BIS certification, indicating its imminent launch in India. According to a report, the OPPO A5s has been confirmed to debut in India soon. Let’s get more details on it.
OPPO A5s Expected Price in India, Launch Timeline, Availability
Citing its sources in OPPO’s retail chain, the report states that OPPO will be launching the A5s this month. The phone is expected to be priced under the 15K price segment. The OPPO A5 also belongs to the same price bracket and is available in 32GB and 64GB storage variants priced at INR 11,900 and INR 12,990, respectively. The report also confirms that the OPPO A5s will be up for purchase via major online and offline stores across India.
OPPO A5s With MediaTek SoC, Dual Cameras, Decent Battery
Coming to the specs and features, the OPPO A5s is a slightly upgraded version of the OPPO A5. It brings changes in the display, processor, and other segments. The OPPO A5s comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio and is powered by a 12nm octa-core Helio P35 processor with 2GB/3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage, depending on the variant. Storage on the phone can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. For imaging, the OPPO A5s has 13MP + 2MP dual camera setup on the rear and an 8MP selfie snapper on the front. A 4230mAh battery completes the OPPO A5s. On the software front, the phone ships with Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.2. It will be available in Black and Red color variants.
The OPPO A5s is a mid-range offering from the OEM, but it will be up for some fierce competition by Xiaomi and Realme in India. For those unaware, Realme is OPPO’s sub-brand in India. The latest Realme 3 (review) is an all-rounder mid-ranger from OPPO under the same price bracket as the OPPO A5s is expected to enter. When we compare the OPPO A5s with the Realme 3, the latter wins by a significant margin. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro will also defeat the OPPO A5s in a jiffy.
We are not able to understand the strategy that OPPO is following here. If the brand does not price the OPPO A5s lower than the Realme 3 or the Redmi Note 7 series, we don’t see the phone getting many buyers in India. The OPPO A5s would only survive the competition if it compromises on its pricing; otherwise, it won’t last the market storm.
