OPPO is at the forefront of the smartphone industry’s innovation, technology, and style. What’s more impressive is that the brand has been able to do that for its flagship offerings and mid-range devices, too.

The OPPO A78 that is on sale is the perfect example of the brand’s DNA. It combines style and substance in a single package. From a robust performance and immersive multimedia experience to a head-turning design and long-lasting battery, the A78 is an easy recommendation. The icing on the cake is its attractive Rs 17,499 pricing in India. Are you wondering why we’re going gaga over the handset? We give you not one, not two, but 5 reasons why you should put your money on the OPPO A78.

An Entertainment Powerhouse with an Immersive Experience

In the era of Netflix, Hotstar, and JioCinema, smartphones have become the primary source of multimedia consumption for many in India. The number of OTT users is estimated to surpass 4000 million in India, with the average user spending 70 minutes on OTT daily. And using the OPPO A78 daily during my long commutes, I can see why that’s within the realm of possibility.

Whether sitting inside the dimly lit metro coach or standing in the direct sunlight during office breaks, I could catch up with the latest episodes of Ted Lasso or The Secret Invasion easily. I never had to squint or strain my eyes while streaming videos or simply replying to emails on the OPPO A78, thanks to the adaptive smart backlight for eye comfort and up to 600 nits brightness.

The 6.4-inch FHD+ display uses an AMOLED panel to produce vivid colours and deeper blacks. Add to it the Widevine L1 certification, you could imagine how much I’d have enjoyed catching up on my favourite series or playing games. The screen is also SGS certified, and OPPO claims it reduces harmful blue light by under 12.5% so that I could binge-watch shows even at night without worrying about anything.

Furthermore, the screen offers a 90Hz refresh rate, which makes the entire experience buttery with smooth animations and scrolling experience. No wonder I consume more content on OPPO A78, whether it’s scrolling through social media, consuming OTT, or reading eBooks.

The best-in-class audio output further augments the visual experience. The OPPO A78 is equipped with powerful dual stereo speakers tuned by Dirac. The phone also has Ultra Volume Mode and Real HD Sound 3.0 features for a holistic audio experience.

The former boosts the audio output by 200% and earpiece volume by 3dB, so you never miss a word or beat. On the other hand, the Real HD Sound tunes the audio depending on the scenario, which meant I was experiencing rich and immersive audio, whether streaming, gaming or watching YouTube Videos.

An All-Day Battery That Lets You Leave the Charger Behind

OPPO has equipped the A78 with a massive 5,000mAh battery with 67W SuperVOOC flash charging. The brand claims that it takes just 45 minutes to charge fully. And the icing on the cake is that it lasts 30.75 hours of phone calls and 658.71 hours of standby (screen off, flight mode) on a full charge. I used the OPPO A78 for work and social activities, which lasted all day on a full charge. And with the intelligent charging, I could plug it in all night without worrying about damaging the battery.

There’s a common notion that fast charging degrades battery life. However, I can rest easy that the OPPO A78 will last years before the battery gives up, all thanks to the Battery Health Engine (BHE) and 5-Layer Charging Protection. The BHE enables 1,600 charging cycles by controlling the charging voltage and current depending on the battery status. It means the OPPO A78 will serve me well for at least four years before I need to replace the battery.

The 5-layer charging protection includes adaptor overload protection, charging port overload protection, current/voltage overload protection, battery fuse protection, and flash charge protection. Thanks to the excellent battery backup and intelligent charging, the A78 was a perfect partner for me in day-to-day activities.

A Design That Turns Heads

Along with the impressive specifications, what makes the OPPO A78 shine (quite literally) is its design. I loved taking out the smartphone in the crowd as it turned heads, and many stopped me to ask which smartphone it was. The A78 comes with what OPPO is calling a Minimalistic Runway design. It looks similar to the OPPO Glow Design from the brand’s flagship devices.

It flaunts the dual-tone elongated camera island housing the two camera cutouts and a matte finish on the back panel. OPPO has launched the A78 in two attractive colours – Aqua Green and Mist Black. The Aqua Green variant has a sea-green base with a diamond matrix pattern. It looks stunning when the light hits it at an angler. I liked the Mist Black variant that also has a brilliant hue with a sparkly yellow-green tint. You are bound to be the centre of attention, no matter which colours you pick.

The OPPO A78 is also pretty sleek and lightweight, measuring 7.9mm and weighing 180 grams. However, that doesn’t mean the OPPO A78 is frail and fragile. The smartphone is IP54 rated for waterproofing and has been rigorously tested in OPPO labs for durability. I have been taking the OPPO A78 out for a spin to record the Delhi monsoon, and it held up very well.

Capture Life Moments in High Definition

OPPO is one of the leading brands when it comes to camera innovations, and the OPPO A78 is no different. It has been my constant EDC or everyday carry to click candid and street pictures. It features a dual rear camera setup with a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel depth camera. On the front, the device is equipped with an 8-megapixel selfie camera.

The primary camera shot vibrant and sharp images in both day and night situations, which helped me document special moments without worry. I loved the Dual View Video mode that you can access from the More options on the viewfinder carousal. It allows me to record using both front and rear cameras. This way, I can be part of digital memories created for special occasions and celebrations.

OPPO has been at the forefront of selfies and portrait photography, which shows with its latest, too. The camera on the A78 is loaded with various features like Bokeh Flare Portrait, AI Portrait Enhancement, Selfie HDR, and more. I never had to worry about clicking pictures using the OPPO A78 at the spur of the moment and ending up with hazy or blurry photos.

A Performance That Doesn’t Let You Down

Under the hood, OPPO’s A78 has the Snapdragon 680 processor at its core to drive performance. It’s a 6nm mid-range processor with Qualcomm® Adreno 610 GPU and Kryo 265 CPU designed for robust performance and balanced efficiency. OPPO offers the A78 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.

There’s a RAM Expansion technology, which lets users expand the RAM by 8GB using the onboard storage. Speaking of which, I could expand the storage up to 1TB using microSD cards. If that’s not enough, OPPO has added the proprietary Dynamic Computing Engine, which it claims can keep 19 apps in the background and boost app opening speeds. I am glad to report I had no issue switching between Disney+ Hotstar and Rocket League Sideswipe.

Moreover, the OPPO A78 boots the latest ColorOS 13.1 based on Android 13 out of the box. The software is designed to improve efficiency, convenience, connectivity, security, privacy, and gaming experience. I can vouch for the fact that features like Screen Translate, Auto Pixelate, Private Safe, and others are all exceptionally helpful and enhance the user experience.

Bottomline

OPPO has done it again! The OPPO A78 is another commendable A-series smartphone that checks all the right boxes, is a complete multimedia package, and still goes easy on the pocket. Not only is it a looker, but it also has serious performance chops. The phone also offers segment-leading battery backup and fast charging technology with innovations in place for preserving battery health. If you are in the market for a stylish yet powerful mid-range smartphone, then look no further than the OPPO A78, which is priced attractively at Rs 17,499 and can be picked from mainline retail outlets, OPPO E-Store, and Flipkart.
