Just as promised, OPPO today launched its first K-series smartphone in China, the K1. Not only is the OPPO K1 the company’s first smartphone under the new K-series, but it also happens to be the first affordable smartphone to sport an in-display fingerprint sensor. So far, in-display fingerprint sensors have largely remained exclusive to flagship smartphones. Apart from an in-display fingerprint sensor, the OPPO K1 also packs impressive hardware specifications and comes in an attractive gradient finish.

OPPO K1 Price, Availability

OPPO has launched the K1 in China in two memory configurations – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage. The 4GB RAM variant of the handset has been priced at 1,599 yuan or Rs.17,100. On the other hand, the 6GB RAM variant of the OPPO K1 is priced at Rs.1,799 yuan, which translates to Rs.19,300 based on the ongoing exchange rate. It comes in two colors – Van Gogh Blue and Mocha Red. The smartphone is now available for pre-order in China and is set go on sale in the country for the first time at 10:00 AM on October 19. Those who pre-order the K1 will receive a Selfie stick as a gift. As for global availability, OPPO has not revealed any plans just yet. If OPPO does decide to launch the K1 in India, it might prove to be a solid alternative to the Vivo V11 Pro. The Vivo V11 Pro features a very similar design to the K1 and also happens to be equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

OPPO K1 Specifications, Features

In terms of design, the new OPPO K1 is similar to some of the other smartphones launched by the manufacturer recently. It sports a waterdrop notch at the top, which allows for an impressive 91% screen-to-body ratio. The K1’s AMOLED display measures 6.4-inches diagonally with 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Similar to the OPPO R17 and R17 Pro smartphones launched a few weeks back, the K1 comes with a fingerprint sensor embedded under the display. Under the hood, OPPO K1 runs on a 14nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE octa-core processor clocked at up to 2.2 GHz with an Adreno 512 GPU. In the memory department, as mentioned above, the K1 comes in two memory configurations. For further expansion, the handset includes a microSD card slot as well.

At the rear is a 16MP + 2MP dual-camera setup with the usual AI-powered features that we have come to expect from OPPO smartphones. Housed within the waterdrop notch on the front is an impressive 25MP snapper for selfies and video calling. The front-facing camera comes with AI Portrait and AI beautification features as well. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, and Dual 4G VoLTE. Keeping the lights on is a 3600mAh capacity battery. Unfortunately, the smartphone does not come with fast charging support. In terms of software, the OPPO K1 will ship with Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.2 out of the box.
