Update 1: According to an exclusive report by 91mobiles the OPPO K3 will be launching in India on July 19. The launch of this phone is said to be online-only, and the phone will retail exclusively via Amazon in India.
Nearly two months after it was launched in China, OPPO is readying the launch of its new K-Series handset called the OPPO K3 in India soon. The imminent launch of this new phone is confirmed after a teaser page for the OPPO K3 recently went live on Amazon India. By the looks of it, the OPPO K3 is an upgraded version of the OPPO K1 with a few feature additions and hardware upgrades. Let us now take a closer look at the hardware specifications of this device
OPPO K3: Key hardware specifications, features
The major design change on the OPPO K3 when compared to the K1 is the addition of a front-facing pop-up selfie camera about which we will talk in a while. The addition of this pop-up camera also means that the OPPO K3 lacks a display notch. As for the display itself, this one happens to be a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels in the 19.5:9 aspect ratio. This panel is only slightly larger than the 6.4-inch notched panel on the OPPO K1 and also gets a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for added durability. And lest we forget, the handset also gets an in-display fingerprint scanner.
The OPPO K3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC which is the same chipset used on the Realme 3 Pro. In China, this phone is offered with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. At this point, we are not sure if the Indian variant will also be offered in the same memory/storage configurations. While the teaser does talk about some specs, there is no mention of the storage/RAM options.
The talking point of the OPPO K3 will almost certainly be the front pop-up camera. This camera uses a 16MP sensor with an f/2.0 lens with HDR support, and the capability to record full HD videos. At the rear, the phone gets another 16MP camera – this time with an f/1.7 lens with support for PDAF. This camera is mated to a 2MP, f/2.4 depth sensor.
The OPPO K3, as expected of an OPPO, will run the newest version of ColorOS 6 which is based on Android 9 Pie. It will come with features such as GameBoost 2.0, Frame Boost and Touch Boost all of which claim to improve the gaming performance. Then there is the LinkBoost 2.0 feature that allows users to optimize network performance on the phone.
OPPO K3: Battery, Connectivity options, Expected price
The OPPO K3 finds itself powered by a relatively large 3,765 mAh battery which is even smaller than the 4150 mAh battery on the Realme 3 Pro. The handset, however, will come with VOOC 3.0 fast charging technology with a fast charger included in the retail box. As far as connectivity options go, the phone packs in almost all of the necessary connectivity features including dual-SIM, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB Type-C, GPS/ A-GPS, and more. As for the pricing, we expect the handset to be priced slightly above the launch price of the OPPO K1.
