If you are an informed tech and smartphone geek, it is likely that you were aware of the fact that the Chinese smartphone brand OPPO is set to launch a fresh line up of OPPO Reno-branded cameraphones on December 26. Successors to the existing Reno 2 lineup, the OPPO Reno 3 series is expected to feature incremental feature upgrades and would almost certainly come pre-installed with ColorOS 7. Of the multiple handsets that would be unveiled at the event, we have preliminary information about one of them. The handset in question here is the OPPO Reno 3 Pro. This is a mid-tier smartphone about which we knew precious little. Days before its official reveal, however, most of the specifications and key aspects of the Reno 3 Pro are out in the public domain after the phone was listed on OPPO’s Chinese website.
Here’s a quick look at what those specifications are.
OPPO Reno 3 Pro Specifications, Features
The OPPO Reno 3 Pro’s mid-range origins become evident as soon as you realize that the handset uses the 5G-ready Snapdragon 765G chipset. Announced just days ago — along with its more powerful cousin (the SD 865), the SD 765 lineup succeeds last year’s 7XX models. The SD 765G is based on a 7nm manufacturing process and boasts of new Kryo 475 CPU cores and gets the Adreno 620 GPU for graphics. Thanks to the onboard X52 modem, the Reno3 Pro will be among the first 5G-ready mid-range handsets to go on sale in several markets.
The listing also makes it clear that the phone will be sold in at least two variants– a base 8GB RAM option that gets 128GB of storage and a top-end 12GB RAM version that gets 256GB of internal memory. There is also talk of a 12GB RAM version with a lower (128GB) memory that allegedly appeared in popular Chinese e-commerce website JD.com. The phone would reportedly be sold in four color options that roughly translates to the following; Moonlight Black, Misty White, Night Sky Blue and a top-end variant that gets the ‘Sunrise’ color with a gradient finish.
Most other hardware specifications of the phone — including details about the cameras remain unclear although it is known that it gets a quad-camera setup with a 64MP primary camera. The front-facing camera is on the top left corner completely surrounded by the AMOLED display. Staying with the camera-centric features, there is also talk about the Reno 3 Pro featuring its next-generation image and video stabilization technology.
OPPO Reno 3 Pro: Will it make it to India?
While OPPO has launched most of its Reno branded smartphones in India in the past, we are not sure if the 5G ready Reno 3 Pro would make it to India in its current form. There is a good chance that the company could launch a 4G version of the device in India. Apart from increasing the overall cost, the 5G capability would remain unused in India for the foreseeable future. Anyway, we should get a clearer idea of the overall specifications of this phone once all the details are revealed on December 26.
