OPPO Reno 8 series was launched this year in India and the global market. Now, the company is prepping to launch the next-gen Reno 9 series devices in China. Recently, Tipster Digital Chat Station revealed Reno 9 series might see a downgrade in terms of charging speeds.

The OPPO Reno 9 series is said to pack the same 4,500mAh battery. The company might launch the phones with Universal Fast Charging Specifications standards. Based on the previous report, the company is likely to launch the phones with 40W charging support, which is way below the 80W charging speed found on the Reno 8 series. Now, a new report has given us some news and details about the Reno 9 series’ processor.

OPPO Reno 9 May Ditch Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

According to a post by Digital Chat Station on Weibo (via IThome), the upcoming Reno 9 series device, which was previously expected to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series or MediaTek Dimensity 800 series SoC might now come with a slightly older Snapdragon 778G SoC.

Tipster Digital Chat Station says the Reno 9 series processor will be replaced from the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 of the previous generation Reno 8 Pro to the Snapdragon 778G. On paper, this sounds like a downgrade. As of now, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is currently available only on Reno 8 Pro (Chinese variant) and Xiaomi Civi 2. OPPO_20Reno_208_20Pro_20White_20Official

Although it has been many months since the launch of Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, phones with this SoC have not their way out of China yet. The Snapdragon 778G is a mid-range 5G SoC, which we have seen on phones like Realme GT Master Edition, Realme 9 5G Speed Edition, Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE, Samsung Galaxy A73 5G, Vivo T1 Pro 5G, and more.

This octa-core SoC has a max clock speed of 2.4GHz. Over the past year or so, phones with this processor have proven to be excellent it terms of day-to-day performance and even in gaming. Often, we have seen phones with this chip priced under Rs 30,000 and with Reno 9 series device as well, we can expect the same.
