It was back in October 2019 that Chinese smartphone major OPPO announced the launch of a new smartphone called the OPPO Reno Ace in China. Back then, it made headline news because of its 65W charging speeds and the claim of a 0-100% charging time of just 30 minutes. Nearly five months since that launch, OPPO seems to be readying the announce a successor to the Reno Ace. Unsurprisingly, this device is called the OPPO Reno Ace 2. The phone recently made its first-ever appearance on the Chinese social media platform Weibo — albeit without revealing too many details.

OPPO Reno Ace 2 Image Leaks

The image of the OPPO Reno Ace 2 seems to indicate that that the rear camera array gets a massive design makeover. As opposed to the vertical quad-camera array that the ‘original’ Reno Ace came with, the Reno Ace 2 seems to tote the new circular quad-camera array – also known as the ‘Oreo lens design.’ What we still do not know is the resolution and details of these four rear-facing cameras. While the phone itself appears to be thin, the camera bump is quite significant, thereby indicating the presence of a fairly large sensor.

Since this appears to be a successor to the original Reno Ace 2, there is a good chance that we could see several feature and hardware upgrades. It remains unclear, though, if OPPO would bump the already fast charging speeds even further.

While we do not know the rest of the specs of the OPPO Reno Ace 2, the original Reno Ace, came powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC (which could be replaced by the SD 865 on the Ace 2). It was offered in three versions; 128GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 8GB RAM, and 256GB 12GB RAM. The quad cameras at the rear included a 48MP, f/1.7 primary camera with PDAF and OIS, a 13 MP, f/2.4 secondary telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, an 8 MP, f/2.2 ultrawide camera, and a 2 MP monochrome camera. At the front, the phone had a single 16MP selfie camera. Most of these features should see an upgrade in the new Reno Ace 2.

While we still do not have a launch date or an official date of the announcement for the OPPO Reno Ace 2, the phone seems to be in an advance state of completion, which indicates that OPPO could announce this handset very soon.
