Android 9.0 Pie is the latest OS version from Google. However, less than one percent of Android devices are currently running this software. The adoption rate for Android has always been slow, as it takes a long time for an OEM to deliver the software update.

As of now, only a couple of smartphones have received the official Android 9.0 Pie update. Other OEMs are working on bringing the software to its devices, but only the most recent and high-end devices will get the update. Now, Chinese smartphone maker Oppo, has also announced plans to release a new ColorOS 6.0 UI that could be based on Android 9.0 Pie.

To be different from one another, smartphone makers usually ship their devices with a custom Android interface. Oppo uses the ColorOS, which is a custom version of Android featuring extra customizations, design changes, and more. The company has been using ColorOS since 2013 and continues to do so even now. Just last week, Oppo celebrated the 5 year anniversary of the ColorOS. The company announced that ColorOS is currently being used by over 100 million users.

The latest Oppo smartphones run on ColorOS 5.2.1, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. It features several new features and improvements over previous versions. The company recent started a beta program for Realme users. The Realme brand has gained huge popularity in India, and the company announced that it will also be releasing the Android P update for its devices. Users have been waiting for their Oppo devices to get Android 9.0 Pie, and it looks like that might be happening soon.

To celebrate the 5 year anniversary of ColorOS, Oppo is holding an event in Shekou, Shenzhen on November 22. Now, according to a new report, the company could be announcing an all new ColorOS 6 UI at the event. The report doesn’t reveal much about what to expect from the new ColorOS update. However, it does state that there will be plenty of design changes and system improvements. The update is said to feature the Hyper Boost Acceleration technology from Oppo, among other things. The latest version of Color OS 5.2.1 also features this technology.

It is also possible that ColorOS 6 will be based on the latest Android 9.0 Pie software. This isn’t confirmed yet, but we will find out soon enough. The inclusion of Hyper Boost Acceleration tech on the new UI will improve both gaming and app performance. The update is said to be available to lower and mid-range smartphones as well, which should help improve performance. Some Oppo smartphones are currently running ColorOS 5.2 based on Android Pie, but these are only test builds. These devices could be the first to get the new update. We will know more during the event, which is only two days away.
