WWDC 2025: Here’s Everything Apple Announced
The WWDC 2025 has officially ended with several crucial announcements surrounding the new generation of OS updates. Here’s everything you need to know.
New Nomenclature System for Apple OS Across Devices
Apple has announced that this year onwards, the naming of its OS across the device lineup will be unified. The brand will name these operating systems with the year after their release as the suffix.
This means the updates coming out this year will be named iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26. Apple has also announced that these operating systems will be available as developer betas starting June 9 and will roll out publicly starting this fall.
Liquid Glass Interface for All OS
The introduction of the Liquid Glass interface was arguably one of the most important announcements of the WWDC 2025 event. Apple is revamping the design interface across all of its devices with transparent app icons, buttons, media controls, and more. The new interface also extends to the lockscreen, which gives a refreshed look to the Apple experience.
Design Overhaul for Stock Apps Including Safari, Phone, and Camera
As part of the design overhaul across its lineup, Apple is also revamping the interface design of its core apps, including Safari, Phone, and Camera. To begin with, Safari will now show webpages in full-screen, taking up the entire display coverage.
The Phone app will receive a new layout that combines Favourites, Recents, and voicemails into one panel. The calls, contacts, and keypad tabs remain on the bottom.
Lastly, the camera app will feature a more simplified layout with only two tabs: Photo and Video. Users need to swipe on the toolbar to access other modes like slow motion or cinematic.
New Features for iPadOS 26, WatchOS 26, macOS 26 Tahoe, and VisionOS 26
Starting with iOS 26, the update will bring custom backgrounds in Messages and the ability to create polls in group chats. Additionally, users will be able to filter messages from unknown senders to a separate folder instead of the main chat list.
Apple also announced a new windowing system for iPadOS 26, which will let users resize windows, place them anywhere on their display, and open more windows. Apart from this, the iPadOS 26 will also bring a new Preview app from Mac, a more precise mouse pointer, and a new menu bar.
Coming to macOS 26 Tahoe, the update will bring an updated Spotlight with the ability to offer more personalised search options. It can now generate more relevant search results through new personalisation and filtering options. The macOS 26 will also bring the Phone app, live activities from iPhone and the newly announced Game Hub to MacBooks.
The visionOS 26 will bring support for PlayStation’s VR2 Sense controllers to the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset. This will allow users to play a variety of VR games on their headsets. The new update will also add the ability to scroll apps by looking up or down.
Lastly, watchOS 26 gets a new wrist flick gesture, allowing users to dismiss notifications by simply flicking their wrist. The new update will also bring an AI-powered Workout Buddy, which will show personalised advice and workout motivation for the user.
Game Hub
Apple has announced a new app called Game Hub for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This app will allow users to access all their Apple Arcade games and discover new ones from a single platform. Users will also be able to record the games downloaded from the App Store and the Play Together option to challenge their friends through Game Hub. Apple Intelligence New Features
Apple is bringing the useful Live Translation AI feature to the Messages, Phone, and FaceTime apps. The integration will automatically translate text and voice in the Messages and Phone apps. In FaceTime, it will display translated live captions on the screen.
Additionally, Visual Intelligence will now be able to perform an on-screen search for products and all. Moreover, Apple has upgraded Gemoji and Image Playground to make them more intelligent and playful.
Other WWDC 2025 Announcements
At the event, Apple also showcased a new AirPods feature that will allow users to click a picture or start recording a video simply by tapping the stem of their AirPods. The brand is also working on a new feature that allows users to record studio-quality vocals even in noisy areas, using voice isolation.
Lastly, Apple announced that third-party app developers will be able to access the on-device large language model used by Apple Intelligence. This will allow app developers to create Apple Intelligence tools of their own.
