There have been several reports that have pointed to the existence of a new upcoming smartphone from former Xiaomi sub-brand POCO. It is believed that the company could be unveiling a device called the POCO M2 Pro, as it was spotted on Xiaomi India’s website but it was quickly taken down. Now a new report has surfaced which claims that POCO has sent out invites in Spain for an online event on 12 May. Shortly after that POCO announced on its official Twitter account that it will be showcasing a “second-gen POCO device” soon.
It is expected that this second-gen device will be the POCO F2 or the POCO F2 Pro, although the 40-second video posted on POCO’s account does not make it clear. The POCO F2 was spotted on the Malaysian SIRIM certification authority website, which confirmed that the device will have 5G and NFC capabilities. A previous listing on Google Play had pointed out that the Redmi K30 Pro will be rebranded as the POCO F2 Pro in global markets. However, the F2 Pro was not slated for a launch in India.
Currently, it is very confusing as to what we can expect on the 12 May launch event in Spain. It is likely that we will see the POCO F2 Pro at the event and also perhaps the new TWS earphones that the company is reportedly making. An e-commerce website, has, however, listed the POCO F2 Pro revealing some key specs about the device.
POCO F2 Pro rumoured specifications
The device is said to come in 8GB RAM and 6GB RAM configurations paired with 256GB and 128GB of storage respectively. A Super AMOLED panel measuring 6.67-inch in size rocks the front of the phone with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels. Snapdragon 865 SoC is going to be running under the hood of the device while the software side of things will be taken care by Android10-based MIUI 11. We should know for sure if and when the device is announced on 12 May.
