The Prince of Persia franchise has been one of Ubisoft’s most popular franchises to date. While fans had been eagerly waiting for a new Prince of Persia game, Ubisoft released an Escape Room VR title last year. It was announced just after that Ubisoft is also working on the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Quite notable of all was the fact that the game was being developed by Ubisoft India entirely. This was quite a breakthrough for the Indian game development scene, considering the scale and hype around the title. While the game was due to release next month, but it seems like it has been delayed yet again.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been delayed indefinitely

In a tweet on its official Twitter handle, Ubisoft India Studios reveals that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been delayed indefinitely. The studio states that the “outpour of feedback” has compelled it to take such a decision. It further adds that the delay will ensure that the “remake feels fresh while remaining faithful to the original”.

This is the second time the title has been delayed. Initially revealed during the Ubisoft Forward event back in September 2020, the title was supposed to release on January 21st, 2021. However, it was delayed to March 18th owing to the hurdles caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Ever since its reveal, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been amidst controversies. A majority of the fanbase criticized the game for being far behind modern-day games in terms of visuals. The developers addressed the criticism by citing that the game was intentionally given such an art style. It was being speculated that the budget or the timeline were the reasons for the game’s dated graphics. However, such claims were also refuted by the studio. With this delay, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake joins the long list of Ubisoft titles that have been delayed, which includes the likes of Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine.
