Sony PS5 has just launched, and it is set to release in more regions on November 19. However, India, which arguably has one of the most vocal PlayStation fanbases, doesn’t have a launch date yet. Heck, there isn’t even any pre-order information or even a window of when we might get to see either of those two. Naturally, fans have been dissatisfied with this approach from Sony about the PS5 India launch. Now, Sony has released a statement about the situation, but it again fails to give any concrete information or even a solid assurance.
PlayStation India Puts Out Recycled Statement About PS5 India Release
— PlayStation India (@PlayStationIN) November 13, 2020
The statement seems like a poor attempt at pacifying fans, but there is nothing new here. The statement is the same one that Sony had given at the time of the PS5 India price announcement, as The Mako Reactor notes:
“We know that gamers in India are excited to get their hands on PS5. Availability in each country is subject to, amongst other things, local import regulations, and our local teams are working through the logistics. We will share an update on launch date for India as more information becomes available.”
We talked to veteran games journalist and India’s point man for PS5 news, Rishi Alwani, from The Mako Reactor, about Sony’s PS5 India strategy (or the lack thereof). Here’s what he had to say:
“Their latest statement is the same statement they made a month back when they announced the PS5 price. It seems like nothing has changed. Odd when you consider that Microsoft, which doesn’t have the biggest presence here is able to launch in time with the rest of the world. Whatever Sony’s global PS5 strategy is, India doesn’t seem to be a part of it at the moment.”
Logistical problems and such are understandable, but it seems like Sony isn’t at its best with PS5 India release. Even the trademark issue that was holding the PS5 India release, was resolved a while ago. Whichever way you see it, there is little justification to Sony’s PS5 India delays. On the other side, Xbox has held up its word about India release on the same day as the global release, with some users even getting their Xbox Series consoles prior to the release date.
However, for now, all we have is hope. Let’s hope Sony gives us some more concrete information in the coming days.
