Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 5G SoCs: Check Features and Specifications

Qualcomm has announced two new Snapdragon SoCs for mid-range phones and budget phones under the Snapdragon 6 and Snapdragon 4 series respectively. The newly launched SoCs from Qualcomm also follows the new naming convention, which was started with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 last year. The new chipsets are called the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1.

The two new mobile chipsets are built to offer advanced technology solutions for the mid-tier and mass-volume segments. Phones with Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will be available in Q1 2023, while the phones will Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 will launch as early as next week in India from iQOO. Snapdragon 6 Gen 1: Features

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is an octa-core SoC with Qualcomm Kryo CPU and a peak clock speed of 2.2GHz. This chipset is built on top of a 4nm node. The chipset offers true global 5G with support for both Sub-6 and mmWave connectivity. It also supports TDD, FDD and Dynamic Spectrum Sharing for global 5G coverage. Qualcomm says the chipset offers a 35% improvement from the previous generation. Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is coupled with Adreno GPU, which is said to bring up to a 30% performance boost from the previous generation. However, the company has not specified the full GPU name yet.

The chip is integrated with X62 5G Modem-RF System with up to 2.9 Gbps peak download speed. There is also support for Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth with Wi-Fi 6E, 802.11ax, 802.11ac, 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.2 standards. In the visual department, there is support for up to Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz. As for the imaging, there is Qualcomm Spectra ISP with support for up to 200MP single camera support and the ability to capture 4K video at 30fps. Other key features include 7th Gen Qualcomm AI Engine, Qualcomm Sensing Hub, Qualcomm aptX, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+, LPDDR5 RAM, and support for Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max and Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor fingerprint scanner.

Phones with Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 Processor

Qualcomm has confirmed that the phones with Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will launch in 2023 Q1, which is anywhere from January to March 2023.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 1: Features

This is Qualcomm’s new entry-level SoC. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 is an octa-core chip with up to 2GHz clock speed. It is built on top of a 6nm process and is integrated with Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System to support sub-6 GHz connectivity. Qualcomm says this chipset offers 15% CPU and 10% GPU performance improvement compared to the last gen SoC.

The SoC supports up to Full-HD+ display with 120Hz screen refresh rate and offers support for up to 108MP single camera. Other features include LPDDR4x RAM, Qualcomm aptX, USB-C (USB 3.1), FastConnect 6200, dual-band Wi-Fi, 2.5 Gbps 5G download speed, Adreno GPU, and Qualcomm Sensing Hub. It supports the same GPS systems and charging standards as the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1.

As of September, iQOO has already confirmed that the upcoming iQOO Z6 Lite will be the world’s first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC.
