Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC Announced; Smartphones Coming with the New Chip Confirmed

Qualcomm has announced a new premium mid-range SoC. The company has announced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC as its new chipset for upper mid-range smartphones. In case you are wondering, no, there was no 7+ Gen 1 SoC or the 7 Gen 2 SoC. Qualcomm straight-up announced the Plus variant of the 7 Gen 2 SoC without announcing the vanilla one. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC is claimed to offer 50 per cent performance improvements over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC.

The new Snapdragon 7 series SoC has a tri-cluster setup. It has one prime core, three performance cores and four efficiency cores. There is an unnamed Adreno GPU, which is also claimed to provide a 2x performance bump over the GPU in the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. Phones with Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC Coming Soon

Qualcomm has confirmed the list of phones coming with the new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC. The new premium mid-range SoC is based on a 4nm process. Qualcomm claims that the 7+ Gen 2 SoC offers up to a 50 per cent bump in performance over the 7 Gen 1 SoC. The SoC has a peak clock speed of 2.91GHz with a 1 + 3 + 4 cluster setup. The company did not reveal the clock speeds of the other cores. There is also an unknown Adreno GPU, which is claimed to offer 2x the performance.

The SoC is claimed to offer 13 per cent power efficiency over the predecessor. It supports Auto Variable Rate Shading that renders foreground gaming scenes in high resolution while consuming a lot less power. 

The SoC’s ISP has been upgraded to an 18-bit Triple ISP, claiming to offer improved low-light camera performance. The 7+ Gen 2 SoC supports up to 200MP camera sensors and HDR video recording from two cameras simultaneously. The SoC also supports QHD+ displays with support for up to 120Hz or 4K screens with a 60Hz refresh rate support.

For 5G support, there is a Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF System with up to 4.4 Gbps download.

Smartphones confirmed to feature the new 7+ Gen 2 SoC are the long-rumoured Redmi Note 12 Turbo and the Realme GT Neo 5 SE. The latter is confirmed to launch later this month.
