Realme 2 Pro Price in India will Not be Hiked, Confirms CEO; New Update Fixes Battery Drain Issues

It has now been confirmed that prices of the Realme 2 Pro will not be hiked in India, at least for the time being.

Earlier this week, Realme hiked prices of its entry-level Realme C1 and budget-friendly Realme 2 Android smartphones in India. While the Realme C1 is now INR 1,000 more expensive, the Realme 2 base variant is now priced at INR 9,499 instead of its launch price of INR 8,990. Realme 2 Pro prices, however, were not hiked. While Realme CEO Madhav Sheth had earlier suggested that the Realme 2 Pro would become more expensive after Diwali, the executive has now confirmed that the company will not be hiking prices of the smartphone in India.

Realme 2 Pro Price in India Will Not be Hiked

Realme CEO Madhav Sheth has confirmed that the company’s latest budget Android smartphone will continue to be available at a starting price of INR 13,990 on Flipkart. While the company was contemplating hiking prices of the Realme 2 Pro, it appears Realme has decided not to go ahead with the hike, as it might have had a negative impact on the smartphone’s popularity among consumers in India. The budget Android smartphone segment in India is currently the most affordable Android smartphone running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 AIE octa-core processor. Realme 2 Pro base variant, which comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, undercuts the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro base variant in terms of pricing. The Redmi Note 5 Pro (review), which happens to be the most popular Android smartphone in its segment, starts at INR 14,999 for the base variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Similarly, the Realme 2 Pro 6GB RAM variant is currently priced INR 1,000 lower than the Redmi Note 5 Pro 6GB RAM variant.

The Realme 2 Pro will be going on sale today on Flipkart at 12 noon. If you are a Reliance Jio subscriber, you can avail benefits worth up to INR 4,450 and up to 1.1TB of data on a minimum recharge of INR 198 or INR 299. Flipkart is also offering a 10% instant discount for users making their first online payment using a MasterCard debit as well as credit cards.

Realme 2 Pro Latest Software Update Fixes Battery Drain Issue

Just as it had promised, Realme has now started pushing out a new software update for the Realme 2 Pro with a fix for the battery drain issue that has been reported by several users in the recent past. In case you have not received any new software update on your Realme 2 Pro yet, you can try updating the device manually by going to Settings > System update. If you have been noticing abnormal battery drain on your Realme 2 Pro, it is highly recommended that you install the new update. Once you update to the latest firmware, you can expect battery life to improve significantly. Apart from the battery drain issue, the new firmware also offers some improvements to the selfie camera performance and a few other bug fixes.

Unlike its parent brand OPPO, Realme is focusing on software support as well. As confirmed by the company’s CEO, the Android Pie update for the Realme 1 is expected to begin rolling out very soon. We expect the Realme 2 Pro to be updated to Android 9.0 Pie by the end of the year or latest by early next year.
