OPPO‘s sub-brand successfully created its space in the segment, locking horns with Xiaomi’s Redmi. In its latest launch, the company made the Realme X smartphone official in China and now another announcement by the company might give it a significant push. Realme’s India Chief, Madhav Sheth has revealed that the company would be bringing out a 5G smartphone by the end of this year.
Realme 5G Smartphone to Debut By the End of 2019
Sheth took to Twitter to reveal the 5G plans of the brand. In his latest tweet, he revealed that Realme would be among the initial few brands to embrace 5G and launch products globally catering to the service. He also confirmed in the tweet that a 5G smartphone by Realme is currently under the research and development phase. Moreover, he also confirmed that the 5G Realme phone would also be debuting in India as early as possible. For now, it is not clear whether India would be among the primary markets to get the phone.
#5GisReal …. Straight out of meeting room with Mr. Sky Li. Glad to share you our latest R&D updates: #realme will be among the first brands to bring 5G products globally this year. And we are determined to bring the best of technology to India as early as possible. pic.twitter.com/cVNOA6f9Iw

Another factor to notice in the tweet is the image that is accompanying it. In the image, we can see Sheth holding a mysterious phone, which is being dubbed as the phone currently in works and geared with 5G connectivity. Although nothing has been confirmed concerning the upcoming phone, the grapevine is shaping up over the phone in the photo. Another thing to note in the image is that the design of the phone has been concealed with a case.
However, based on the trendy designs of recently launched phones by other OEMs, we can expect the upcoming phone by Realme to also have an edge-to-edge design clubbed with high-end camera setup and of course, a massive battery to support 5G connectivity.
Realme Future-Proofing its Portfolio With 5G
We all know how 5G is going to be the future of internet connectivity on smartphones. By embracing 5G in the early stages, Realme is up to greater good for its portfolio. Realme is a mid-range catering brand, which means its 5G strategy could work wonders and might also position it ahead in the competition. We are yet to hear about a 5G smartphone by its rival brands like Redmi. If the brand launches the phone in the expected timeline i.e., by the end of this year, it will certainly reap benefits.
As for India, Reliance Jio would most likely be the first telco to launch 5G services, and if the reports are to be believed, the telco has already started testing it. If things do turn out as planned, India could have 5G services by the beginning of 2020, and this may act as a perfect base for the launch of an affordable 5G phone by Redmi.
