Recently, there have been plenty of leaks regarding an allegedly upcoming smartphone from Realme – the Realme 5i. Well, Realme’s CEO, Madhav Sheth, has now confirmed the existence of the device. In a tweet that he made earlier today, Madhav has announced that the brand will launch the Realme 5i in the Indian market on 9th January at 12:30 PM.

Going by the name, it looks like the Realme 5i will be a trimmed-down and a more affordable variant of the Realme 5. Fortunately for us, the tweet from Realme’s CEO has a link it, which leads to a teaser page for the Realme 5i. And guess what, it lists a few key specifications of the handset, saving us from speculating what the device would have to offer.
The website reveals that the Realme 5i will have a 6.5-inch display. It could be the same 6.5-inch HD+ IPS LCD that is in the Realme 5 and the Realme 5s. Next up is the imaging section. The page confirms that the Realme 5i will have a quad-camera setup at the rear. Although the page doesn’t reveal the resolution of the camera sensors, it does confirm that there will be an ultrawide lens, a macro camera, and a depth-sensor onboard, apart from the primary camera, of course.
While the page shows that the Realme 5i will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, it doesn’t reveal the SoC model. Considering that the Realme 5i will be an affordable variant of the Realme 5, it will most probably feature a less powerful chipset than its costlier cousin. I am guessing the device to pack the Snapdragon 660 chipset. The last piece of information that the teaser page reveals is that the Realme 5i will have a 5000mAh battery, similar to the Realme 5 and the Realme 5s.
With all the information that the brand has revealed through the teaser page, all we need to know now is that the RAM and storage capacity of the device, and the price of course, which I guess, will start from INR 7,999. Sure, Realme hasn’t revealed the OS details, but we all know it is going to run on Android 9 coated with ColorOS 6. And what about the connectivity options of the smartphone? Well, I am expecting the connectivity features to be the same as that of the Realme 5.
The brand has already listed the Realme 5i on Flipkart, confirming that you can buy one from the e-commerce website. It might most probably sell through Realme’s online store as well, like all Realme smartphones so far. If the Realme 5i launches at the expected price of INR 7,999 for the base variant, it will go head to head against Xiaomi’s Redmi 8, which already offers some great specs for the price. Hopefully, the one from Realme will be an even better choice for consumers.
