Realme CEO, Madhav Sheth, has just announced it on Twitter that the brand is working on a new ‘premium killer’ smartphone, and that it will be the world’s first handset to feature a 64MP camera.
Madhav has revealed that the 64MP unit is the GW1 sensor from Samsung, which made its debut last month. The Samsung GW1 sensor is currently the largest camera sensor available for smartphones, with a sensor size of 1/1.72-inches. Madhav has posted a sample image captured with the 64MP camera smartphone. The sample image has a ’64MP AI Quad Camera’ watermark on it, revealing that the smartphone will have four rear cameras assisted by AI. Madhav also says that the 64MP camera can capture ‘amazing clear shots in low light.’

According to Madhav, India will be the first market to get this 64MP camera smartphone, which means that the smartphone will not only be limited to India, but it will launch in other countries as well. Unfortunately, Madhav did not reveal the exact launch date or even an approximate timeline for the launch of this 64MP camera smartphone.
What Else Do We Know About This Smartphone?
Unfortunately, there’s no other information available regarding this upcoming 64MP camera smartphone from Realme, apart from what Madhav Sheth has revealed in the above-mentioned Tweet. In fact, we don’t even know the name of this upcoming smartphone.
Considering that Madhav has called it a ‘premium killer’ smartphone, it could most probably be an upper mid-range or a high-end device. It could also be Realme’s flagship device, which has been making rounds of the rumor mill recently.
If this upcoming smartphone from Realme is indeed a premium, flagship smartphone, then you can expect it to feature high-end hardware such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, a large AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C port, high RAM and storage capacities, and a premium build quality.
At the moment it looks like Realme will pitch this 64MP camera smartphone against the Redmi K20 Pro from Xiaomi, which is set to launch in India soon. It is also possible this 64MP camera smartphone will compete with the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro.
