Realme Celebrates 2nd Anniversary, Madhav Sheth Says the Brand Has More than 2.1 Crore Users in India

It is no secret that former OPPO sub-brand Realme has been one of the fastest-growing smartphone names in the Indian market. Two years ago the brand was announced as part of a strategy by OPPO to counter the dominance of Xiaomi in the country. Today the company is independent and holds a 14 percent market share in the country as of Q1 2020. Realme CEO Madhav Sheth has today revealed, just ahead of the company’s two year anniversary, that Realme has nearly 2.1 crore users across India.

“From India’s First 64MP Camera Phone & the Fastest Charging Phone to nation’s first 5G flagship, from receiving 20+ awards to being the world’s fastest-growing smartphone brand with 21 Million+ #realme users in India, the last 365 days have been truly amazing. #2getherWithrealme!” said Madhav Sheth said in a tweet.

As a brand with just two years of existence, Realme has been doing extremely well for itself. Canalys report claims that the company is currently the fourth-biggest smartphone maker in terms of shipments, behind Xiaomi, Samsung, and Vivo, all of whom have been in the Indian market for much longer. Reports state that in January, Realme’s revenue was over Rs 15,000 crores. The company said it had 1.7 crore global users back in October 2019. Just this quarter alone the company is said to have shipped 39 lakh smartphones.

A major part of Realme’s existence is to cater to the “young Indian consumers” by emulating the business model Xiaomi, widely considered the company’s biggest rival. Realme offers incredible value for money offerings in prices that ranged earlier from Rs 5,000 – Rs 15,000 to a wider spectrum of products that cost Rs 35,000 as well. Realme has also ventured into the wearables category as well by introducing the Realme Buds Air TWS earphones and the Realme Band fitness tracker. It is soon also going to announce a new smartwatch which will be called the Realme Band.
