Realme GT Neo 5 Launched in China as World’s First Smartphone with 240W Fast Charging Support

Realme has unveiled its GT Neo 5 Smartphone in China. The device is available in two variants with 150W fast charging and 240W fast charging.

Realme has been teasing its GT Neo 5 smartphone for quite a long time. It has been revealing the key specifications of the device over the weeks. Finally, the Chinese OEM has taken the wraps off of Realme GT Neo 5. As tipped, the smartphone is available in two variants with 150W charging speed and 240W fast charging speed. 

It is the first smartphone from Realme and any other OEM to feature support for 240W fast charging. There are rumors that Realme would launch the device globally, including markets in India as Realme GT 3. Yesterday, the Indian twitter handle of Realme teased the upcoming Realme GT 3 smartphone

The brand has confirmed the forthcoming GT 3 will sport 240W fast charging tech. The GT Neo 5 has been released with Snapdragon 8 + flagship chipset, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, and a starting price of CNY 2499 (Rs 30,500 approx).

Realme has launched the smartphone in two variants, i.e., one with 150W fast charging and another with 240W charging tech. The lower variant with 150W charging starts at CNY 2,499 (Rs 30,500 approx) for the 8GB + 256GB configuration. It is also available in 12GB + 256GB and 16GB + 256GB configurations with pricing of CNY 2,699 (Rs 32,900 approx) and CNY 2,899 (Rs 35,300 approx), respectively.

The higher variant with 240W fast charging is available in two configurations viz 16GB + 256GB and 16GB + 1TB storage. The pricing of 256GB starts at CNY 3,199 (Rs 39,000 approx) and CNY 3,499 (Rs 42,600 approx). The device will be available for pre-orders starting from 16:00 (GMT+8) on February 9th. Realme will officially begin the sale from 0:00 (GMT+8) on February 15th in China.

Realme GT Neo 5: Specifications

The GT Neo 5 smartphone sports a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen jointly developed with Tianma. The display has an adaptive refresh rate of 144Hz, 1.5K resolution, a peak brightness of 1400 nits, 2160Hz UHF PWM dimming, 5000000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. It uses a new generation flagship luminescent material.

Underneath, it features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, built on a 4nm process. The smartphone has obtained five-star certification of Tier gaming standards. The chipset pairs up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. It runs on Realme UI 4.0 on top of Android 13 out of the box. 

In the optics department, Realme equips the GT Neo 5 smartphone with a triple-rear camera setup. The setup comprises a primary 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor with OIS and f/1.88 aperture. It is a sizeable 1/1.56-inch sensor with a pixel size of 2.0μm and uses pixel binning technology to produce images. 

The sensor is accompanied by a secondary 8MP Sony IMX355 ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP (Geco Micro GC02M1) macro sensor. The display has a punch hole in the center and houses the 16MP sensor. Realme includes HyperShot 2.0 and Turbo RAW lossless image algorithm with the device.

The device’s highlight is that it is the world’s first smartphone to support 240W fast charging tech. Realme claims that charging for 30 seconds will let the user use the device for 2 hours. It also adds that the device takes only 80 seconds to charge from 1% to 20%. 

The 240W variant with a 4600mAh battery can complete a full charge in 8 minutes. The lower 150W variant with a large 5000mAh battery can achieve a 0 to 100 charge cycle in 16 minutes. Realme equips the smartphone with an X-axis linear motor, Dolby Atmos dual speakers, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and infrared remote control.

A Different Approach to the Design of the Smartphone

The device has an interactive design and features a transparent RGB panel on the right side of the rear camera. It also features a stainless-steel chip nameplate, RGB breathing light, and NFC.

The RGB lights support up to 25 colors, two display modes, five-speed adjustments, custom settings, and provide e-sports violent light effects. It can be used for call reminders, message notifications, and other scenarios. The device is available in Purple, White, and Black color options.
