Realme had recently released an official teaser for an upcoming U series smartphone, claimed to be the world’s first MediaTek Helio P70-powered smartphone. The company has now revealed the smartphone’s marketing name as well as the launch date. Dubbed Realme U1, the selfie-centric smartphone will be launched in India on November 28. If the Realme U1 teaser is anything to go by, the smartphone will offer “the perfect combination of power and an astounding selfie experience”. The Realme U1 is expected to take on the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 (review) and other selfie-focused budget Android smartphones on sale currently.
Realme U1 Set to Launch in India on November 28
Realme had partnered with Flipkart for its last three launches: Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro, and Realme C1. For the Realme U1, however, the company has tied up with Amazon. The Realme U1, which is being touted as “India’s SelfiePro” will be launched as an Amazon-exclusive on November 28 at 12:30 PM. Realme will live stream the event on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and its official website.

The Realme U1 landing page on Amazon.in reveals the smartphone will feature “the most powerful selfie camera ever”. However, unlike some budget Android smartphones, the Realme U1 will feature a single selfie camera at the front. As confirmed by Realme already, the U1 will run on a MediaTek Helio P70 octa-core 12nm processor with a high-resolution depth engine, faster multi-frame noise reduction shot, anti-blooming engine and accurate AI detection. The landing page also confirms the presence of a Dewdrop notch similar to the one on the Realme 2 Pro.
According to the latest data from Counterpoint, Realme is the first ever smartphone brand to hit 1 million shipments within 5 months of brand launch. It also managed to grab the No. 4 online share ranking within 1 month of brand launch. Thanks to its phenomenal success in the Indian market, there are now 3 million Realme users, within just six months of brand launch.
Realme U1 Rumored Specifications
The Realme U1 is expected to feature a Dewdrop notch display measuring over 6-inches diagonally. Thanks to the Dewdrop notch, we can expect the Realme U1 to boast a 90% screen-to-body ratio, just like the Realme 2 Pro. As for the resolution, the smartphone is expected to come with a 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ panel with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, Realme U1 will run on a 12nm octa-core MediaTek Helio P70 processor clocked at up to 2.1 GHz with an ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU clocked at up to 900 MHz. Realme CEO, Madhav Sheth had recently hinted at the possibility of upcoming Realme smartphones supporting OPPO’s VOOC fast charging technology. Since the Realme U1 will be the world’s first smartphone to run on a Helio P70 chipset, there is a good chance that it could be the company’s first model to come with VOOC fast charging.
Connectivity-wise, the Realme U1 will come with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and 4G VoLTE. The smartphone is expected to be available in multiple memory configurations at launch. As for pricing, the smartphone is tipped to be priced under INR 15,000 in India. The base variant of the smartphone could be priced closer to INR 10,000, which would make it a direct rival to Xiaomi’s Redmi Y2.
