
Chinese smartphone giant Redmi has announced the launch date and one extremely key feature of its next upcoming smartphone series called the Redmi 10X-series. The former Xiaomi sub-brand has announced that it will be launching the Redmi 10X on 26 May in China. It will be the first phone to be powered by chipmaker MediaTek’s latest SoC Dimensity 820 which happens to be 5G enabled. The announcement of the launch, which has been expected for a while now, was made via Redmi’s official Weibo account. It has been said in the post that the Redmi 10X will be a “light flagship”.

Redmi 10X spotted on AnTuTu
A Redmi model “M2004J7BC” believed to be the Redmi 10X has been spotted on AnTuTu. The listing has revealed that the device will have up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The score of the device happened to be 4,15,277 points which is higher than devices powered by other 5G-enabled mid-range chipsets such as Snapdragon 765G and Kirin 820.
Redmi 10X expected specifications
The launch date poster reveals the back of the Redmi 10X which happens to be very similar to the recently announced Redmi Note 9-series. A quad-camera setup flanks the rear of the device while the sides of the phone appear to have an accented power button. The cameras are said to be 48MP, 8MP, 2MP, and 2MP lenses, same as what we saw on the Redmi Note 9 Pro.
Previously it was hinted that there would be two versions of the Redmi 10X – 4G and 5G. We should know for sure when the launch date of the device arrives. Other leaks point towards a punch-hole style display which is said to measure 6.53-inches. Four colours are visible in the poster which happens to be Blue, White, Purple and Pink. As of right now, it is believed that the Redmi 10X will start at CNY 1,499.
MediaTek Dimensity 820: Specs and features
MediaTek announced that it will be debuting the new 5G-enabled Dimensity 820 SoC on the Redmi 10X. The chipset is said to slot in between the gaming-focused Helio G90T and the high-end Dimensity 1000. Apart from 5G capabilities, the Dimensity 820 also brings support for up to 120Hz refresh rate and fast CPU and GPU performance. The integrated 5G modem on the SoC can support oth Standalone (SA) and Non-standalone (NSA) Sub-6GHz networks.
As per MediaTek, the Dimensity 820 SoC is built on an nm FinFET process and it has eight ARM cores in a big.LITTLE arrangement. There are four Cortex A76 CPU that have a max clock speed of 2.6GHz as compared to the 2.0GHz seen on the Dimensity 800. The other four are Cortex-A55 CPUs for handling low-intensity tasks and are clocked at 2.0GHz.
The SoC has the ARM Mali-G57 GPU and it is supported by MediaTek’s HyerEngine 2.0 which has software-based enhancements for better gaming performance. Then there is also MiraVision technology which will let OEMs employ features such as upscaling SDR content to HDR, improve 24/30 fps content to 60 fps, and more. In the imaging department, the Dimensity 820 can support up to an 80MP primary sensor which can be paired on a quad-camera setup.
