Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 12 series in India on January 5, 2023. Soon after the launch, there were reports about Xiaomi gearing up to launch another budget Redmi smartphone in India. Xiaomi launched the budget Redmi 12C smartphone in late December 2022 in China.
A reliable tipster said that Poco might rebrand the device as Poco C55 to launch in global markets. The smartphone would be a successor to Poco C50, which was available in India. But another report claimed that Xiaomi would launch Redmi 12C in India in February ahead of the MWC 2023 event.
The Redmi smartphone visited Thailand’s NBTC and India’s BIS certification websites a week ago. It confirmed that the smartphone would be launching in India. There are chances for both Redmi and Poco to launch the devices in India with slight differences.
However, there are no confirmations from both brand about the launch. Ahead of the launch, the global variant of the Redmi smartphone has made its way to the GeekBench listing. The listing reveals the key specifications of the forthcoming device.

GeekBench Listing of Global Variant of Redmi 12C
The listing reveals the device has the model number 22120RN86G and a MediaTek chipset. The chipset has a model number MT6769V/CZ with six CPU cores. These cores are clocked at 1.80GHz, and two other CPU cores are clocked at 2.00GHz. The specifications of the chipset confirm that it is the MediaTek Helio G85 SoC that backs the device.
The chipset will pair with 4GB of RAM, which indicates that it’s a budget device. The smartphone scores 355 points in single-core and 1173 points in multi-core tests. However, it still runs on Android 12 out of the box. It is likely to run on MIUI 14 as recently launched Xiaomi devices come with MIUI 14 on top of Android 12.
Redmi 12C Specifications
Since the smartphone is already launched in China, we know the device’s specifications. The Redmi 12C sports a large 6.71-inches HD+ IPS display with an HD+ resolution, i.e., 1650×720 pixels.
The MediaTek Helio G85 pairs with up to 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of eMMC 5.1 flash memory. We are still determining whether Xiaomi will launch the smartphone with 6GB outside China.
It has a hybrid SIM card slot which supports expansion up to 512GB. However, the global variant will sport NFC connectivity, and the Indian variant will continue to lack it.
On the optics side, it sports a 50MP primary sensor with a 0.8MP depth camera on the rear. The rear camera module also houses the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The display has a dew drop notch which houses the 5MP selfie sensor.
A large 5000mAh battery with 10W charging support backs the device. It is available in Shadow Black, Sea Blue, Mint Green and Lavender colour options. The device weighs around 192 grams and sports IR Blaster, a micro-USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
