Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus vs Honor 9 Lite: Price in India, Specifications, Features

The choice is tough, but only between the two Chinese competitors, as the Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus is no match for them. Read on to find out why.

The Indian smartphone market has always favored budget-friendly handsets, even before smartphones came around. Now, with a host of budget-friendly smartphones that promise a user experience similar to that provided by mid-range phones, the budget smartphone segment is exploding with options. While the Redmi 6 Pro made headlines and was received well in India, we have a new addition to the myriad options in the budget segment: Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus. In this post, we shall provide a perspective on how the two new smartphones compare, with the steady best-seller Honor 9 Lite thrown in for context.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus vs Honor 9 Lite: Price in India

The Redmi 6 Pro is priced well at Rs 10,999 for 3GB RAM and Rs 12,999 for its 4GB RAM variant. The new Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus, while priced the same as the Redmi 6 Pro, offers only one option: 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. It was launched at Rs 10,990. The Honor 9 Lite can be bought for Rs 10,409 at Paytm Mall using offers, in 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant, or for Rs 11,718 (Paytm offer) with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. As you can see, the Honor 9 Lite has a price advantage at first glance.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus vs Honor 9 Lite: Design, Display

The Redmi 6 Pro is the only handset here that gets a notched display. The largest display, however, is on the Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus, which has a 6-inch HD+ display with thin bezels, achieving an aspect ratio of 18.5:9, while the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro has a notched 5.84-inch Full HD+ display and the Honor 9 Lite has a 5.65-inch Full HD+ display with thin bezels.

The Honor 9 Lite is the lightest and slimmest phone in this comparison, measuring just 7.6 mm in thickness and weighing 149 grams, while the other two weigh 178 grams. The Redmi 6 Pro is the thickest, at 8.75 mm, and the Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus is just fine at 7.9 mm.

However, given that there is a craze for notched displays these days, we feel that the Redmi 6 Pro wins this round with its more new-age look and feel. Also, it is the only phone in this comparison that you can buy in Red color.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus vs Honor 9 Lite: Camera

In the camera department, it is rather tough to decide a clear winner. The rear camera battle is quickly lost by the Samsung phone as it is the only handset in this comparison that does not get a dual rear camera. The Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus has a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie shooter, a setup that sounds primitive in comparison with the other two handsets here.

The Redmi 6 Pro has a 12MP primary lens and a 5MP depth sensor, and the selfie camera is 5MP. But the Honor 9 Lite excels here with its 13MP+2MP front and rear camera, a rarity in the budget segment, as also in any range of handsets. For selfie buffs then, the Honor 9 Lite is the obvious choice, with its dual camera up front.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus vs Honor 9 Lite: Performance

In the performance aspect, what is clear is that the Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus is no match for the Chinese warriors. The Korean handset is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset that is quad-core, and also gets a 2GB RAM and no other RAM option. The Redmi 6 Pro and the Honor 9 Lite both get a 3GB or 4GB RAM option, which helps their case well.

Also, the Redmi 6 Pro has a clearly better Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, which is octa-core and clocked at 2GHz. However, this battle is not so easy to win for the Redmi 6 Pro, as the Honor 9 Lite, powered by a 1.7GHz Hisilicon Kirin 659 octa-core chipset, has just received a software update that brings GPU Turbo to it. The GPU Turbo, as we all know, has the potential to increase gaming and overall performance significantly.

All three handsets here boot Android Oreo with some brand bloatware, but the good thing here is that all three of these handsets come with a 3.5 mm audio jack. The battery battle, however, is again won by the Redmi 6 Pro, with a 4000mAh unit as compared to the 3300mAh battery on the Samsung handset and the 3000mAh Honor 9 Lite.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus vs Honor 9 Lite: Verdict

As you can see, this is a tough battle but the Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus seems to not even be in it. The real tug is between the two Chinese competitors, and each has something of value to offer. You can’t dismiss the GPU Turbo-featuring and dual front camera-flaunting Honor 9 Lite just because it has aged a little, while the brand new Redmi 6 Pro does tick more boxes with its notched display, Snapdragon 625 chipset, and a larger battery.
