It’s been just a few days since Xiaomi announced the launch of its new budget smartphone series, the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro here in India. It is a well-known fact that the company also sells an even more affordable lineup of products under the ‘Redmi’ brand minus the ‘Note’ appendage. These handsets included the likes of the Redmi 6, Redmi 6A and the likes both of which have been around for a while here in India. It is quite likely, therefore, to see both these handsets being replaced by newer Redmi 7 and Redmi 7A handsets in the near future. While we still do not know if the Redmi 7A will even be manufactured, we have received multiple hints that point towards the possibility of Xiaomi readying a brand new handset called the Redmi 7. In fact, someone actually seems to have managed to get hold of what is most likely a pre-production version of the Redmi 7 and post a hands-on video of it! The video which seems to be in Vietnamese goes on to reveal most of the specifications of the Redmi 7.
Let us now take a closer look.
Redmi 7 Leaked Specifications, features
Before we start talking about the spec sheet of the new Redmi 7, it is necessary that you take a look at the video embedded below. The bit about the Redmi 7 starts somewhere around the 2:30 mark.
If we are to go by the video above, it is plausible that you will see Xiaomi use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC on the upcoming Redmi 7. The version that was being tested came with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It is possible that the handset could come in other RAM and storage versions (like a 3GB RAM +32GB version). The design language remains similar to that of the existing Redmi 6 series lineup with a polycarbonate body and similar construction. The display, however, could feature a notch. We still do not know the display size or the technology being used. Although it is likely that the handset will use a TFT LCD panel. Other bits that were revealed included the fact that the handset will use the microUSB standard for wired connectivity and that it is likely to be priced around the USD 130 mark when launched. The Redmi 7 also reportedly gets a large 4000 mAh battery. The hands-on video also shows that the phone gets a dual camera setup at the rear flanked by a fingerprint scanner.
Redmi 7 Expected launch date, price
We still do not know as to when Xiaomi plans to officially launch the Redmi 7 series globally, and here in India. Looking at the prototypes, though, it seems the official announcement and launch should not be too far out in the future. It is very much possible that both the Redmi 7 and the Redmi 7A would be priced under the psychologically important INR 10,000 mark when launched in India.
