Just last week, Xiaomi had teased the launch of the Redmi 7A in India to be sometime soon. Now, it has been revealed that the phone will be launching on July 4. Furthermore, Xiaomi India Managing Director, Manu Kumar Jain sent out a tweet recently, stating that the smartphone will be receiving a massive upgrade over its international model that debuted in China over a month ago. Most probably, the update could be in the camera department, but it is hard to confirm at this point in time.
The launch date of the Redmi 7A in India comes courtesy of Flipkart, where the “Notify Me” page just went live. Xiaomi is promoting the Redmi 7A as “Smart Desh Ka Smartphone.” We know that the handset will be a Flipkart Exclusive product, meaning Flipkart is the only third-party retailer that will sell the smartphone. Other than Flipkart, Mi Home stores and Mi.com will likely also sell the phone.
Redmi 7A To Feature A Massive Upgrade
— Manu Kumar Jain (@manukumarjain) June 29, 2019
Manu Kumar Jain recent tweet notes that the Redmi 7A’s Indian variant will offer some improved or upgraded feature or specification when compared to its International model. Jain also mentioned that this is a feature highly appreciated by fans on the Redmi Note 7 (review) and the Mi A2 (review). He also said that this feature is something no other brand offers in their phones that are priced under INR 20,000.
A quick comparison of the specifications of the Redmi Note 7 and Mi A2 shows us that the two phones have their Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, USB Type-C port with Quick Charge 4, and IR blaster as the most standout common features. To be fair, each of these features has ended up on other branded phones in some way. Still, the most likely upgrade we think Xiaomi is talking about here could be the Type-C port with Quick Charge 4 support.
If our prediction ends up being accurate, we could be looking at an incredible offering from Xiaomi as long as its price does not go up too much.
Redmi 7A Specifications, Expected Price In India
The Chinese variant of the Redmi 7A comes with a 5.45-inch LCD screen with an HD resolution. The phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 SoC that is paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of storage. For imaging, the phone offers a 13MP rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture along with a 5MP selfie camera. The battery on this phone measures 4000mAh, and charges over a micro USB 2.0 port.
In China, the base variant of this phone with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage costs CNY 549 (approx. INR 5,500), while the 32GB storage model costs CNY 599 (approx. INR 6,000). With the base variant of the Redmi 6A priced at INR 5,999 in India, we are hoping the Redmi 7A also launches at a similar price. If Xiaomi prices the phone around INR 8,000, it will become a difficult sell as it would be priced uncomfortably close to Xiaomi’s own Redmi 7.
