Xiaomi’s Redmi launched the Redmi 9 earlier today in the country. Now, a fresh report from Pricebaba claims that the company is gearing up to launch another Redmi 9 series smartphone in the country. As per the report, the upcoming Redmi smartphone would be called Redmi 9i and will be available in Nature Green, Sea Blue, and Midnight Black color options. Xiaomi has never launched ‘i’ variant of a Redmi device in India till date, though it has used ‘i’ branding on Mi series devices such as Mi 4i, Mi Band 3i, Redmi Powerbank 2i, and there is a rumour that the company may launch Mi Note 10 Lite as Mi 10i in India.

Redmi 9i might be rebranded Redmi 9A

Going by the color variants mentioned in the Pricebaba report, it looks like Xiaomi might introduce Redmi 9A as Redmi 9i in the Indian market. This, if true, is going to be a quite unexpected move as Xiaomi has been releasing entry-level Redmi A series of devices in India since 2017. Redmi 9A, successor to Redmi 8A was launched globally back in June. Redmi 9A features a 6.53-inch HD+ IPS LCD panel with a 20:9 aspect ratio and waterdrop notch.

Redmi 9A sports an entry-level 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio G25 processor, coupled with 2GB LPDDR4X RAM and 32GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. Similar to every other entry-level Redmi smartphone, Redmi 9A also has a dedicated Micro-SD card slot with support for upto 512GB external memory.

Coming to the camera department, the device features a13MP primary rear camera accompanied by the LED flash. On the front, the device houses a 5MP selfie shooter. On the battery front, the device packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 10W charging and can be charged with a Micro-USB port. Redmi 9A lacks a fingerprint sensor so you need to rely on the AI face unlock. Similar to every other Xiaomi device, Redmi 9A runs Android 10 based MIUI, and we can expect it to come with MIUI 12 out of the box.

Xiaomi has been launching Redmi 9 Series devices in India with different names so it won’t be surprising to see Redmi 9A as Redmi 9i in India. To those unaware, the company recently launched the Redmi 9 Global as the Redmi 9 Prime in India and launched the Redmi 9C Global as Redmi 9 in India.
