Xiaomi’s Redmi K20 Pro has finally been unveiled for the Indian market. With the launch of this phone, Xiaomi has yet again proved that it is possible to have flagship-grade specifications at highly affordable prices. Based on what the Redmi K20 Pro costs, the two most popular smartphones that end up become direct rivals to it are the Samsung Galaxy A70 (review) and the Vivo V15 Pro (review).
Has Xiaomi made it impossible for Samsung’s and Vivo’s offerings to be compelling moving forward, or do they still have some credibility to make them worth picking up? Let’s find out.
Redmi K20 Pro vs Vivo V15 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy A70: Price in India
The Redmi K20 Pro starts off at INR 27,999 for its 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model. That’s about the same as what the Samsung Galaxy A70 retails for these days with the same storage setup. Meanwhile, the Vivo V15 Pro’s base model with the same storage configuration costs around INR 26,999 these days.
While the A70 is sold in just the one storage setup, the K20 Pro and V15 Pro can be had in 8GB RAM variants with 256GB and 128GB storage respectively. As for their pricing, the K20 Pro costs INR 30,999 while the V15 Pro costs INR 29,990.
Redmi K20 Pro vs Vivo V15 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy A70: Design, Build
While all three phones in this comparison come with glossy rear panels, only the Redmi K20 makes use of glass back there, while the other two feature plastic bodies. In fact, Xiaomi has used Gorilla Glass 5 on the back of the Redmi K20 Pro, making it that much more resistant to damage. Another similarity between these devices is with the use of in-display fingerprint scanners as their primary biometric unlock options. Then we have the pop-up selfie camera design that both the Redmi K20 Pro and Vivo V15 Pro share. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A70 provides a waterdrop notch to house the selfie camera.
Redmi K20 Pro vs Vivo V15 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy A70: Display
While all three smartphones feature Super AMOLED screens, the K20 Pro’s and V15 Pro’s measure 6.39-inches and the Galaxy A70’s is larger at 6.7-inches. With that said, the use of the pop-up selfie camera on the first two smartphones ensures a completely unobstructed viewing experience, whereas the A70’s waterdrop notch does become intrusive no matter how small it is. One feature that helps the K20 Pro pull ahead of the V15 Pro is its support for HDR content.
Redmi K20 Pro vs Vivo V15 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy A70: Performance
In the performance showdown, the Vivo V15 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy A70 can’t really compete against the Redmi K20 Pro as it rocks a flagship Snapdragon 855 chipset while the former two make use of the mid-range Snapdragon 675 chipset. There is one drawback on the K20 Pro when it comes to storage expandability, however, as the other two phones have dedicated microSD card slots while the Redmi phone doesn’t have any such support, dedicated or otherwise.
Redmi K20 Pro also gets brownie points for adding the support for a Hi-Fi DAC for audio playback at 192KHz/24-bit for enhanced audio quality over wired headsets. Furthermore, this is one of the few phones to come with dual-band GPS for better location tracking and accuracy.
Redmi K20 Pro vs Vivo V15 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy A70: Camera
The Redmi K20 Pro also steals the show when it comes to rear photography prowess thanks to its 48MP + 8MP (telephoto) + 13MP (ultra-wide) camera setup. Next up would be the Vivo V15 Pro with its 48MP + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 5MP (depth) setup, and then comes the Galaxy A70 with its 32MP + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 5MP (depth) camera configuration. A contributing factor of the K20 Pro’s win here is its support for 4K 60fps video recording.
From a pure resolution standpoint, both the Galaxy A70 and Vivo V15 Pro take the lead when it comes to selfies thanks to their 32MP front-facing shooters. The Redmi K20, meanwhile, settles for a 20MP selfie camera.
Redmi K20 Pro vs Vivo V15 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy A70: Battery Life
The Galaxy A70 comes out ahead when it comes to battery life with its massive 4500mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging over a USB Type-C port. Then we have the Redmi K20 pro with its 4000mAH cell that supports 27W Quick Charge 4+ also over USB Type-C. In last place, we have the Vivo V15 Pro with its 3700mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging over the dated microUSB standard.
Redmi K20 Pro vs Vivo V15 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy A70: Verdict
Overall, the Redmi K20 Pro absolutely crushes its competition with its superior processing chops, impressive imaging capabilities, HDR display, and exceptional build quality. While on paper, the Galaxy A70 might have appeared to take the second spot, our review o the phone proved the Vivo V15 Pro to be a more balanced alternative.
