Xiaomi has just launched two new affordable smartphones in India, the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro. Looking at their specifications and pricing, it looks like they’ll be huge blockbusters in the Indian smartphone market. If you’ve been eyeing these devices, here is everything you need to know about them including their specifications, top features, price in India, sale dates, and offers.
Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro: Top Features
6.3-inch IPS Display with Gorilla Glass 5 Protection
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro feature the same display – a 6.3-inch IPS LCD with Full HD+ resolution. Gone is the wide notch that we saw on mid-range Xiaomi phones last year, this new display has a tiny teardrop notch, which looks comparatively less obstructive. The bezels around the display are very thin, which further enhances the look of these devices. Moreover, both smartphones have Gorilla Glass 5 protection over their displays making sure that they can take some beating. Considering the price of the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro, they have one of the best display hardware in their segment.
Dual-camera and 48MP sensor
Most entry-level and mid-range smartphones feature mediocre camera hardware with their camera sensors maxing out at 25MP resolution. However, the Redmi Note 7 Pro breaks that trend with its 48MP camera on the back. This 48MP camera uses pixel-binning to offer a comparatively better lowlight image performance. Along with that 48MP camera, there is also a 5MP depth-sensor on the back that enhances the portrait images. The Redmi Note 7 Pro beats even the smartphones twice its price when it comes to the camera hardware. Although we haven’t tested the camera performance yet, we are sure that the Redmi Note 7 has a class-leading imaging performance.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, on the other hand, has a 12MP + 2MP dual-camera on the back. This is not as impressive as the 48MP + 5MP camera of the Redmi Note 7 Pro, but considering the price of the Redmi Note 7, its camera hardware is on par with its competitors.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor, making it the most powerful smartphone in its price segment. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 uses identical CPU cores as that in the flagship Qualcomm processors like the Snapdragon 835 and the Snapdragon 845. Hence, the Redmi Note 7 will certainly offer segment-leading multitasking performance. Even the GPU that’s in this chipset is very powerful. Considering the raw power of this GPU, it can handle graphics intensive games with ease. Although we haven’t tested the gaming performance yet, I am sure that the Redmi Note 7 Pro is currently the best smartphone for gaming in the price segment.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 also features the most powerful processor in its price segment – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. If we keep the Redmi Note 7 aside, the most affordable smartphone that has Snapdragon 660 SoC is the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2, and even that costs INR 12,999, which is almost INR 3,000 costlier than the Redmi Note 7. As you can see, price-wise, no other smartphone comes even close to the Redmi Note 7 in terms of performance.
4000mAh Battery With 18W Quick Charge 4 Fast Charging and USB Type-C Port
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro feature a 4000mAh battery, which in my opinion is more than adequate for most users. In addition to that, these smartphones also have 18W Quick Charge 4 fast charging, making them the most affordable smartphones to offer this feature. I wonder how did Xiaomi manage to pack the Quick Charge 4 in these two smartphones, as even the high-end smartphones like the Galaxy S10 are stuck on the slower and less efficient Quick Charge 2.0. I am extremely happy with Xiaomi’s decision to equip these devices with Quick Charge 4; it is not only a great feature for users, but it will also encourage other manufacturers to offer fast charging options.
Hold on, there’s more. Along with the large battery and 18W Quick Charge 4 fast charging, these smartphones also have USB Type-C port, which makes connecting the charging cable an easy affair. For your information, USB Type-C port allows you to insert the cable either way as both the sides of the USB Type-C connector are identical; you don’t have to see which side is up like you have to with the older microUSB cables. Currently, USB Type-C ports are only found in high-end smartphones; most affordable smartphones still use the microUSB port. With the USB Type-C port, the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro offer the users a convenience that you could earlier get only on pricier smartphones.
Completely New Design
We all know that the design of the previous generation Redmi Note smartphones started feeling outdated. Well, Xiaomi felt that too, and hence, it has given the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro a completely new design. Gone is the metal back, these two smartphones have Gorilla Glass 5 at the rear. These devices also have a smoothened-out edge, which makes them comfortable to hold in the hand. The glass back and the improved design not only make the device look more premium compared to their competitors, but they also offer a solid feel in the hand.
