The Redmi Note 7 series from Xiaomi has been quite popular here in India ever since the devices were officially launched in the country earlier this year. Xiaomi first launched the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro before replacing the former with the updated model – the Redmi Note 7S. Both these handsets were initially sold in three different color options. While the Note 7S came in Ruby Red, Onyx Black, and Sapphire Blue colors, the Redmi Note 7 Pro was sold in Neptune Blue, Space Black, and Nebula Red colors. Both these devices would now get an additional color option called the ‘Astro White’ which the company plans to take pre-orders for starting tonight at 12 am, August 8, 2019. The new white color scheme for both the Redmi Note 7 devices seems to be a new move to counter stiff competition from OPPO-owned Realme which sells a white variant of its popular handset the Realme X which was launched just a few weeks ago.
What’s new with the Astro White color variants?
The announcement of the Astro White color options for the Redmi Note 7 series is primarily seen as a move to maintain consumer interest in these devices for a longer period of time. While both these phones continue to remain value for money offerings in the sub 17k price segment, the competition has managed to reach the pricing levels that only Xiaomi could offer until a short while ago. The Realme X, for example, makes for a compelling choice even with it being priced higher than the Redmi Note 7 Pro. Hardware-wise, there is no change in the new white variants of the handsets. All the variants of the phones will come in the Astro white color option except for the 4GB+64GB variant of the Redmi Note 7 Pro.
