Xiaomi has finally started rolling out Android 11 stable update for its 2019 bestseller Redmi Note 8 handset in India. Yes, you read it right. 2020 version of Android for a handset towards the end of 2021. The update was long pending and users had been eagerly waiting for it. To those unaware, the company had rolled out Android 11 update for the handset back in March in China. Several users took it to Twitter to share the development. Redmi Note 8 Android 11 update comes with firmware version MIUI 12.0.1.0.RCOINXM and weighs over 2GBs in size.

Xiaomi hasn’t mentioned much about the update in the changelogs, but the update brings an updated October Android security patch along with regular Android 11 features. The update also brings a 1GB Memory Extension, which is Xiaomi’s version of virtual RAM. It is worth noting that the handset is receiving Andorid 11 based MIUI 12 update, and not MIUI 12.5 update. So, Redmi Note 8 users in India will have to wait for some more time to be able to use the latest MIUI features on their device.


As usual, this should be a phased rollout, so it might take some time before the update appears on your unit. Android OEMs follow phased rollouts to minimize the impact of critical bugs. We can expect the brand to roll out Android 11 update for all Redmi Note 8 users in India in the next few days. Redmi Note 8 is 2 years old now and has already received two Android version updates that are Android 10 and Android 11.
