As you might know, Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphones a couple of weeks ago at an event in China. Although these smartphones have class-leading specifications, they lack one feature. And that’s NFC. Most people aren’t complaining about it because the markets where Xiaomi has launched these smartphones so far (India, Malaysia, etc.) don’t care about NFC much, as it of little use in those countries.
The brand now plans to launch the Redmi Note 8 in Europe and Russia. And people in these regions rely heavily on NFC for tasks such as payments. People would be really disappointed if Xiaomi brings the Redmi Note 8 to these regions without the NFC. Which is why, Xiaomi is working on an NFC-equipped version of the Redmi Note 8 for Europe and Russia, and it might be called the Redmi Note 8T, according to a Russian tech website, Mobiltelefon.
The report from Mobiltelefon also claims that, apart from the inclusion of NFC, the rest of the specifications of the Redmi Note 8T will be unchanged from the Redmi Note 8. Moreover, the Redmi Note 8T has been listed by a seller on AliExpress, confirming the claims from Mobiltelefon. Considering that the device has been listed on AliExpress, its launch seems imminent. However, the exact launch date is still unknown.
It is possible that in the future, Xiaomi might launch an NFC-equipped variant of the Redmi Note 8 Pro as well for Europe and Russia. It might be called the Redmi Note 8T Pro, I guess. Even if that happens, the Redmi Note 8T and the Redmi Note 8T Pro will most likely be limited to Europe and Russia. Don’t expect them to launch in markets like India. Speaking of, the Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 8 Pro are currently available in India with attractive discounts, if you want to buy one, now is the time.
