Xiaomi will be launching the successor to last year’s Redmi Y2 selfie-focused smartphone at an event in India on April 24. At the same event, Xiaomi may also release the Redmi 7 and Redmi 7A smartphones in the country. Ahead of the launch event next week, Redmi India has released a “drop test” video that shows off the durable build of the upcoming Redmi Y3.
Redmi Y3 Claimed to Offer “Ultimate Durability”
The Redmi Y3 video posted on Twitter by Mi India shows a Redmi Y3 being dropped down the stairs, although inside a dustbin. So even though Xiaomi is claiming that the upcoming smartphone offers ultimate durability, the video doesn’t actually prove the same. While the drop test itself isn’t very useful, the video does give us a clear look at the smartphone’s design.

Similar to the Redmi Note 7 (review) and Redmi Note 7 Pro, the upcoming Redmi Y3 will have a Dot Notch screen on the front. Thanks to the tiny notch, we can expect the Redmi Y3 to have a significantly improved screen-to-body ratio compared to last year’s Redmi Y2. As confirmed by the company already, a 32MP resolution super selfie camera will be housed inside the notch. On the back of the phone, we can see a dual-camera setup with the two sensors stacked vertically. Below the two camera sensors is an LED flash module. Unsurprisingly, the Redmi Y3 also includes a circular rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Additionally, we can see that the smartphone has a gradient finish on the back. Unlike the Redmi Note 7, however, it looks like the Redmi Y3 will have a plastic build.
Redmi Y3 Expected Specifications, Price
The Redmi Y3 is expected to be powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 or Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor. As for the display, we expect the smartphone to have a 6.2” or 6.3” sized display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Apart from the impressive 32MP selfie camera, the other major highlight of the Redmi Y3 will be impressive battery life. Just like the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro smartphones, the Redmi Y3 will pack a 4000mAh capacity battery. However, it remains to be seen if the Redmi Y3 will come with fast charging support. On the software front, we expect the selfie-focused smartphone to ship with Android Pie-based MIUI 10. As for pricing, the Redmi Y3 will likely be priced under INR 10,000 in India.
