Vaccination drive against the Coronavirus in the country is about to begin. As the Indian government approved Covishield and Covaxin vaccines for emergency usage a couple of days back. To those unaware, Oxford University and AstraZeneca have manufactured Covishield, while Bharat Biotech has manufactured Covaxin. Back in December 2020, the government had announced the CoWIN app to channelize the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines amongst people.
Co-WIN app will allow people to register themselves for the vaccination. However, the government plans to vaccinate frontline workers and other vulnerable citizens in the first phase of vaccination. The Co-WIN app will reportedly come with five modules, Registration module, Administrator module, Beneficiary Acknowledgement module, Vaccination module, and Report module. Users will be able to register for the vaccine under the Registration module. Though, a photo identity verification will be required for the registration. Users can upload a copy of their Aadhar Card, Driving License, or even a PAN Card for verification.
The Administrator module will help administrators track the information provided by the users. The admins will also take care of sessions, and managers and others will receive relevant notifications and alerts accordingly. The Vaccination module will verify the beneficiary details and update vaccination status. Beneficiary Acknowledgement Module will send SMS to beneficiaries post verification of the details. The Report module will help with reports such as how many people attended a particular vaccination session, and more.
Co-WIN app is in the development stage as of now, and it is not clear when the app will start rolling out. We would advise our readers to not download any such app from the App stores, for now. It will be available for free and users will be able to download it from Google Play Store as well as Apple App Store. We might also see a version of Co-WIN app for the feature phones running KaiOS, such as Jio Phones, and Nokia 8110 4G.
