The Bollywood star Kajol-starring film “Salaam Venky” will have its digital debut on ZEE5 on February 10, the streaming service announced on Friday. The slice-of-life drama, which was directed by Revathy and co-written by Kausar Munir and Sameer Arora, hit theatres on December 9, 2022.

Another family saga is presented to the audience by the platform following the success of Uunchai and Chhatriwali. Based on Shrikant Murthy’s novel The Last Hurrah, Salaam Venky explores the sensitive topic of euthanasia, which is defined as the deliberate taking of a person’s life in order to relieve them of their suffering. The movie is marketed as an amazing true story about a mother’s perseverance in the face of difficulties. The last time we saw Kajol was in “Tribhanga,” a 2021 Netflix movie. She will also be making her web series debut with “The Good Wife – Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka” on Disney+ Hotstar.

Cast

The movie also stars Aahana Kumra, Rahul Bose, Rajeev Khandelwal, Prakash Raj, Anant Mahadevan, and Priyamani in addition to Kajol and Vishal Jethwa. In the movie, Aamir Khan also makes a brief appearance. Under the auspices of BLIVE Productions and RTAKE Studios, Suuraj Singh, Shraddha Agrawal, and Varsha Kukreja produced the film. Mithoon made up the music, as far as that is concerned.

Plot

The film is based on a real-life story of a little kid who is diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and is characterised by the forceful performances of Kajol and Vishal Jethwa. Salaam Venky follows Venky (Vishal), a chess player, as he battles a rare condition and fights for euthanasia so that he can donate his organs before gradual muscular degeneration renders them useless. In support of his right to a dignified death, his mother Sujatha (Kajol), a doctor (Rajeev Khandelwal), a lawyer (Rahul Bose), and a journalist (Aahana Kumra) rallied.

Reception

The plot of the film fell short of what viewers had anticipated. The movie, which was helmed by Revathy, had a weak opening weekend and struggled to do well financially. Salaam Vdenky faced fierce competition from other big releases like Drishyam 2, Bhediya, An Action Hero, and many others. The best thing about the movie’s release, though, was how much better it did at the box office than the other two releases, Vadh and Marrich. The film’s total lifetime earnings are Rs. 1.25 crore.
