Apple, earlier this year, announced that it would no longer ship its iPhones with a charger or earphones. Samsung might reportedly do the same next year, starting with the Galaxy S21 series. A new report from Android Authority suggests that Samsung will not include any accessories inside the Galaxy S21 series retail box. The company will, however, ship the Galaxy S21 series with a USB Type-C cable. The final decision on the inclusion of a charging adapter and earphones in the Galaxy S21 series box is yet to be made.
Samsung, currently, ships the Galaxy Note 20 series, and the Galaxy S20 series with a charging adapter and earphones. The company, however, is considering removing these accessories from the Galaxy S21 series box, according to Android Authority, citing a local news outlet ChosunBiz.
Ditching the brick and earphones will reduce the size of the retail box, therefore reducing logistical costs. It will also help reduce electronic waste as several smartphone users already have a charging adapter.
The report states that Samsung is only considering making the move and is yet to make the decision on shipping the charger and earphones with the Galaxy S21 series. The company will take a call as it gets closer to the Galaxy S21 series launch date.
Apple has stopped shipping its iPhones with a charging brick and earphones. The company only ships a USB Type-C to Lightning cable with the iPhone 12 and older iPhone models. People on social media did criticise Apple for ditching the in-box accessories. Some users also added that they would need to spend more money on a charging adapter as the in-box USB Type-C to Lightning cable that Apple provides with the iPhone 12 models might not be compatible with their existing USB Type-A adapters.
Samsung is yet to take a call on the inclusion of in-box accessories, as per the report. What do you think about companies removing charging adapters and earphones from the retail box? Do let us know in the comments below.
