Samsung Galaxy A9, Galaxy A7 Prices in India Cut by Up to Rs.6,000: Is this the Right Time to Buy?

Samsung India recently silently dropped the prices of two of its A-Series mid-range handsets – the Samsung Galaxy A7 and the Samsung Galaxy A9. Both these handsets are fairly new with the Galaxy A9 having been officially launched in India just a month or so ago. The Galaxy A7, on the other hand, was launched in September, just four months ago. The rationale behind these price drops remain a mystery, and there has not been an official press release from Samsung informing the press or the buyers this. In fact, the news of the price drop was reported by Mahesh Telecom, a leading smartphone retailer based out of Mumbai.

Samsung Galaxy A9, Galaxy A7 Price Cut details

As mentioned earlier in this article, it was Mahesh Khatri, owner of telecom retailer Mahesh Telecom that first reported about this price drop. In a tweet made on the morning of January 11, Mahesh Telecom on its Twitter account revealed the new prices of these two devices. The price drop spans across multiple variants of these two handsets. The new prices of the Samsung Galaxy A7 and the Galaxy A9 are as follows;

The entry-level version of the Samsung Galaxy A7 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage is now priced at INR 18,990 as opposed to the launch price of INR 23,990. As for the Galaxy A7 variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, this variant will now set you back by INR 22,990. This version was earlier priced at INR 28,990.

As for the Samsung Galaxy A9, the entry-level 6GB RAM version with 128GB storage is now INR 3,000 cheaper at INR 33,990 instead of the launch price of INR 36,990. The pricier 8GB RAM version with 128GB storage now retails for INR 36,990 – INR 3000 cheaper than its original price tag of INR 39,990.

Samsung Galaxy A7, Galaxy A9: Specifications, details

Both these A series handsets are mid-range devices from Samsung. The Galaxy A7 is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7885 SoC and as you already know, is offered in 4/64 and 6/128 versions. This phone also gets a 6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel in the 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The Galaxy A7 features a triple camera setup consisting of a 24-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The front facing camera is also a 24-megapixel unit. The Galaxy A7 gets a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and boasts of a 3,300 mAh battery.

As for the Samsung Galaxy A9, this phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chip and comes in 6GB and 8GB RAM versions with both these variants getting 128GB of storage. The display of the Galaxy A9 is also larger than the one of the A7 and measures 6.3-inches across. This is also a Super AMOLED panel in the 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The phone also boasts of a quad camera set up at the rear that includes a 24-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. Like the A7, the front-facing camera on the A9 is a 24-megapixel unit.
