In order to take on the growing competition from Chinese Android OEMs in the mid-range segment, Samsung recently introduced the Galaxy A7 (2018) with an impressive triple-camera setup. At its “4X fun” event today, Samsung launched the first smartphone to feature a quad-camera setup on the back. Dubbed the Galaxy A9, Samsung’s latest mid-range smartphone is undoubtedly the most innovative device that we have seen from Samsung in a long time.
Samsung Galaxy A9 Price, Availability
Samsung has not revealed the pricing information just yet. For now, the company has only announced that the Galaxy A9 will be available in select markets starting from November. The Galaxy A9 will be available in three colors: Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue, and Bubblegum Pink. Similar to how the Galaxy A7 was launched in India soon after its global debut, we expect the Galaxy A9 to arrive in India sometime next month. As for pricing, we expect the Galaxy A9 to be priced under Rs.30,000 in the country.
Samsung Galaxy A9 Specifications, Features
The Samsung Galaxy A9 boasts a large 6.3-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display with 1080 x 2220 pixels resolution and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. When it comes to design, the Galaxy A9 features a metal frame in the middle and a 3D curved glass. Powering the Galaxy A9 is an octa-core chipset clocked at 2.2 GHz, most likely the 14nm Snapdragon 660 from Qualcomm. The latest Galaxy A-series smartphone is equipped with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Further expansion up to 400GB is supported, thanks to a microSD card slot. In select markets, Samsung will be selling the Galaxy A9 in a second memory configuration with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.
On the back of the Galaxy A9, we find a total of four cameras. Similar to the Galaxy A7, the Galaxy A9 has a 24-megapixel main camera coupled with a bright f/1.7 aperture. The 8MP Ultra Wide camera has a very impressive 120-degree field of view and an f/2.4 aperture. To help users get closer to their subject, the smartphone has a 10MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and an f/2.4 aperture. The fourth camera is a 5MP unit for depth-sensing, enabling the Live Focus feature. Samsung has paired with 5MP depth-sensing camera on the Galaxy A9 with an f/2.2 aperture. For selfies, the Galaxy A9 has a 24-megapixel snapper with an f/2.0 aperture.
Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, ANT+, USB Type-C port, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, NFC, and 4G VoLTE. The Galaxy A9 comes with a fingerprint sensor at the rear as well as support for facial recognition when you require quick access. Fueling the Galaxy A9 is a 3800mAh capacity battery. It measures 162.5 x 77 x 7.8mm and weighs 183 grams in terms of weight. As for software, the Samsung Galaxy A9 will be launched with the Android 8.0 Oreo-based Samsung Experience UI out of the box. There is no word on when the smartphone will be updated to Android 9 Pie.
