Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Clamshell Phone with Punch-hole Display Leaked in Real-life Images

Samsung finally launched its first foldable phone in the form of Galaxy Fold after the Galaxy S10 series in early 2019 after years of teasing. However, the company had already showcased the device, a few months earlier than the official launch at Samsung Developer Conference in November of 2018. And now, just like last year, we have our first look at the Galaxy Fold 2, months before its official launch, thanks to a bunch of purported live images of the phones which were posted on Weibo.

Though the Galaxy Fold is not the first foldable smartphone to hit the market, it is the first one to be available for the masses. But it came with a hefty price tag of around $2,000 or more based on which country it is sold. That is definitely not cheap and also not worth investing as the phone has a ton of flaws like fragile plastic display, loosening of hinges in a few months, form factor, proper app support, and the list goes on.

To overcome these issues, reports started emerging in the past few weeks that the South Korean Electronics giant will unveil a cheaper Galaxy Fold alongside the Galaxy S11 series with new Samsung Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) equipped display for better durability. The reports even suggested it will feature a clamshell design similar to the recently launched Motorola Moto Razr. Also, it was detailed to arrive with the same primary camera as the Galaxy S11 series, a customized 108MP Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor.

Well, now looking at the purported images of the Galaxy Fold successor, we can only confirm one thing and that is its clamshell design teased by Samsung earlier. Truth to be told, this design is less charming than what Moto Razr offers. The device looks blunt on the outside with a very small cover display which only shows time and date. On the other hand, the inner display has huge bezels all-around with a punch-hole for the front camera at the top centre. Also, the hinges appear to be the same as found on the original Galaxy Fold with caps covering the gap in order to avoid dust particles to enter. The exact size of the main display is not known but according to a rumour, it could be either 6.7 or 6.9 inches.

Unsurprisingly, there are only two main cameras as suggested by a recent report which noted the Galaxy Fold successor to come with a 108MP sensor accompanied by a 5x telephoto module. Since there’s no room in the chassis, it might feature two low-capacity batteries, one of which will be of 900mAh as per a leak from a couple of months back. Since the device is expected to be priced around $850 – $1000, it might also not feature a high-end processor like the Moto Razr.

Do note that these images of the Galaxy Fold 2 could be a prototype and the final design might differ from this but bot by a long extent.
