A report published by SamMobile in December last year claimed Samsung was working on a second Galaxy Home smart speaker with model number SM-V310. Four months later, the Samsung Galaxy Home Mini with model number SM-V310 has been granted Bluetooth certification by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG).
Samsung Galaxy Home Mini May be Unveiled Soon
The SM-V310 Bluetooth certification confirms the upcoming smart speaker from Samsung will indeed be marketed as the Galaxy Home Mini. In addition to the product name, the Bluetooth certificate reveals support for the Bluetooth 4.2 standard. Samsung Galaxy Home, which bears the model number SM-V510, also supports the same Bluetooth version. Now that the smart speaker has been certified by Bluetooth SIG, there is a high possibility of it being announced very soon.
As of now, there is little else that is known regarding the upcoming smart speaker. It is expected to be available in only a single color option at launch – Black. Since it will be smaller in size compared to the Galaxy Home, we can also expect it to have a fewer number of microphones and speaker drivers compared to the Galaxy Home. The Galaxy Home Mini will have Bixby 2.0 right out of the box and is likely to have built-in SmartThings hub to let users control their smart home devices easily.
The Galaxy Home, which was announced in August last year, is yet to go on sale. In February, Samsung mobile chief DJ Koh claimed that the Galaxy Home would go on sale by April. We are nearing the end of April but there are no signs of the smart speaker going on sale anywhere yet. While the Galaxy Home is a premium offering, the Galaxy Home Mini is likely to be a lot more affordable. Its main rivals will be the latest Amazon Echo Dot and Google Home Mini.
