Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Scores 109 on DXOMark Camera Review; Higher Than Xiaomi Mi 9, Google Pixel 3

Samsung’s latest additions to the flagship S-series, the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+ have gained the much-needed approval from DxOMark. The Galaxy S10+ that comes with a dual selfie camera setup has gained the top spot in the ranks of the best selfie camera smartphone. By taking the first rank, the Galaxy S10+ has smoothly beaten Google Pixel 3 that also boasts dual front cameras.

Samsung Galaxy S10+ Scores High On DxOMark For Selfie Camera

DxOMark has awarded an overall score of 109 to the Galaxy S10+ making it the best camera phone sharing the spot with Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro (review) and P20 Pro (review). The Galaxy S10+ has got a better selfie camera score at 96 than the Pixel 3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with a score of 92 each. The Galaxy S10+ packs a 10MP+8MP dual lens selfie camera, wherein the primary lens bears f/1.9 aperture and Dual-Pixel autofocus while the secondary RGB depth sensor features f/2.2 aperture. The test conducted by DxOMark has marked the front camera performance of the Galaxy S10+ to be the best. In the review, it is stated to be “the best front camera performance for both still images and video.” The review expressly praises the enhanced bokeh effect in Portrait mode, low noise, and focus on detail.

Falls Short In The Rear Camera Segment

Although Samsung got the desired position for its selfie camera setup on the Galaxy S10+, it couldn’t get the same for the rear cameras. Samsung failed to beat the Huawei flagships – the Mate 20 Pro and the P20 Pro. The Galaxy S10+ received a score of 114 for its still photographs that stand tied with the Mate 20 Pro and the P20 Pro. For video, the rear cameras on the Galaxy S10+ scored 97 which is same as the Mate 20 Pro but lower than the P20 Pro at 98. Interestingly, Xiaomi’s Mi 9 is still the highest rated for its video footage, with an overall score of 99. Thanks to Mi 9’s default 4K video recording instead full HD recording on other devices.

In the review, the Galaxy S10+ struggles in tracking moving objects and also misses HDR. The rear cameras even lose a few scores preceding detail for noise control. Even with 2x optical zoom, it loses out to its competitors. Even though it attain the same 109 scores as the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and P20 Pro, it is placed at the third spot. The Galaxy S10+ has a 12MP telephoto auto-focus lens at f/2.4 aperture, a 12MP secondary wide-angle auto-focus lens at f/1.5 aperture, and a 16MP ultra wide-angle fixed-focus sensor at f/2.2 aperture.
