Samsung Galaxy Unpacked July Event in Seoul Announced; Galaxy Fold 5, Z Flip 5 Expected

Samsung has confirmed the launch of its new foldable phones. The South Korean tech giant will host its upcoming Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul for the first time for the launch of its upcoming foldable phones, dubbed the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. Samsung, in its press release, did not explicitly mention the names of its upcoming foldable phones. However, based on the launches in the past, it is safe to say that the upcoming Samsung foldable phones will be called the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Samsung did not reveal the launch date either but confirmed that the 27th Unpacked event will be hosted in late July. This confirms a recent report, which had revealed the timeline based on the mass production details of the new hinge design. A separate report had claimed that the Galaxy Unpacked event for the launch of the foldable phones will be hosted on July 26.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 Unpacked launch event will be hosted earlier than usual. Last year’s Unpacked event was held in August. Samsung did not reveal any specific details or tease any features of the upcoming foldable phones. “Since the introduction of the first Galaxy Fold in 2019, Samsung has been continuously enhancing its foldable phones and innovating the consumer experience. With the next generation of its foldable series offering enhanced devices based on years of R&D and investment, Samsung aims to further drive widespread adoption of foldable phones and solidify its position as the industry leader and category creator,” the company said.

Thanks to the rumour mill, a lot about the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 is already known. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is likely to have an almost similar design to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The foldable phone will pack some upgraded specs though. Here’s a quick look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 specifications tipped so far:

Foldable display: 7.6-inch foldable AMOLED display with a QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate support. The foldable screen is likely to feature a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Cover display: 6.2-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a Full HD+ resolution.
Performance: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC for Galaxy with a peak clock speed of 3.36GHz.
RAM/ Storage: 8GB/ 12GB, 256GB/ 512GB/ 1TB.
Battery and fast charging: 4400mAh battery with 45W fast charging and 25W wireless charging support.
Rear camera: 50MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera, 10MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.
Front cameras: 12MP front camera on cover display, 12MP under-screen camera.
Software: One UI 5.1 based on Android 13.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is set to get many design changes. It will sport a much bigger outer display, according to some of the new leaks.
