The rumour mill has been busy churning out some new details about the Galaxy S23 series. And it is pretty obvious as the Samsung flagship phones are expected to launch in the coming months. It is likely that the Galaxy S23 series will debut in January or February 2023. Most details of the S23 series have leaked anyway, which has resulted in the rumour mill shifting some focus to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. The foldable phone from Samsung will launch in the second half of 2023.

Yes, we are months away from the launch but the first set of rumours suggests some major changes coming to the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Samsung is said to be working on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 with an S Pen slot.

S Pen Coming Back with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5?

Samsung could introduce a new S Pen slot in the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 foldable phone, which could launch in 2H 2023. The company killed its Note series in favour of the Galaxy Z-series and brought some of the Note series features in the S22 Ultra. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is also said to feature an S Pen slot. While that will continue to give users a Note phone-like feel, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 having an S Pen slot could be a lot more useful. Currently, users need to attach the S Pen to the case separately, which might not blend well with the overall form factor. The dedicated slot could make be a better alternative and also result in users losing the S Pen less often.

The larger foldable screen will be a better canvas for users to doodle, create artwork or anything else that they wish to create using the S Pen. The smart stylus on the Galaxy S22 Ultra also comes with features like Air Gestures, which lets users perform different tasks by pressing the tiny button and hovering it in various ways. The same could be introduced in the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

The piece of information about Samsung introducing an S Pen slot in the Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes from a report by South Korea’s The Elec. The report states that Samsung is also working on making the foldable phone more thinner and lighter than the outgoing model. The next foldable phone from Samsung could also get an improved camera. Samsung is also said to be working on reducing the crease on the foldable screen even further.

Most of the changes, although challenging to implement due to the lack of internal space, can be achieved eventually. However, the addition of an S Pen slot will require Samsung to dedicate a tall vertical slot on either side of the foldable phone. There is no word on whether the foldable phone will be slightly wider or if Samsung will reduce the battery capacity as a trade-off.

Samsung also expects Apple to enter the foldable market by 2024, though not with smartphones with foldable tablets and notebooks. With that in mind, the South Korean giant would want to go all guns blazing to continue its dominance in the foldable smartphone market.
