Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5 Launch Timeline Tipped; Might Launch Earlier Than Expected

There have been reports about Samsung using a new hinge design for the upcoming Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 launch timeline has leaked online. The new foldable phones from Samsung are likely to launch in the second half of the year. Samsung might launch the Galaxy Fold 5 and Flip 5 models earlier than expected. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 were launched last year in August. This time around, the company might launch the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in July itself.

The report by IT Home did not reveal the exact launch date of the foldable phones from Samsung. The report revealed that the hinges for the upcoming Samsung foldable phones will enter mass production in early June. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 hinges went under mass production in late June.


Due to the hinges of the foldable phones going into mass production earlier than expected, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 might launch sooner. The report stated that both foldable phones will debut at Unpacked 2023 by the end of July.

There have been reports about Samsung using a new hinge design for the upcoming Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. Both foldable phones are tipped to get a new water-drop hinge design, instead of the existing U-shaped hinge. The new hinge design might help reduce the gap between the panel when folded. A similar hinge design is seen in the OPPO Find N2 and Find N2 Flip.

Other details about the upcoming Samsung foldable phones have leaked in the past. A Geekbench listing of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 US models revealed that they will feature the custom-developed Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is likely to offer up to 12GB of RAM, whereas the Flip 5 will offer 8GB of RAM. 

Both phones will run Android 13 out of the box. They will have the latest One UI 5 update on top.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is likely to feature a 7.6-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with a 2K resolution. The cover display will remain at 6.2 inches with a hole-punch cutout at the top centre. There will be a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 10MP telephoto camera. For selfies, the foldable phone might feature a 10MP front camera. The Z Fold 5 will have an IPX8 rating for water resistance. It is also said to pack a 4400mAh battery with 45W fast charging support and 15W wireless charging. There will reportedly be a slot for the S Pen as well.

The Z Flip 5 will see some major design changes. It is likely to sport a massive 3.4-inch cover display, next to which will be a dual-camera setup. The clamshell-style foldable phone will feature a 12MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera.

There will be a 6.7-inch 120Hz foldable AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution. The battery capacity of Flip 5 is unknown at the moment. A recent leak revealed that the Z Fold 5 will launch in Beige, Black and Light Blue options, whereas the Flip 5 will be available in Beige, Grey, Light Green and Light Pink colour options.
