Shaakuntalam, a movie starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, debuted in theatres on April 14. Everyone praised the movie’s breathtaking aesthetics and Samantha’s performance as Shaakuntalam. Based on Kalidasa’s renowned Sanskrit play Abhijnana Shaakuntalam, Samantha’s movie tells the epic love story of Shakuntala, the daughter of sage Vishwamitra and Apsara Menaka, who fell in love with King Dushyant. Given its enormous budget and Dil Raju’s production credits, it was believed that the movie might not appear on an OTT platform for at least five to eight weeks after it opens in theatres. It’s important to note that Dil Raju issued a resolution to postpone the digital release of new movies by at least five weeks for low-budget movies and eight weeks for big-budget movies with A-list actors last year while serving as the president of the Telugu Movie Producers Council. The choice was made in an effort to boost box office attendance.
But now, if the grapevine is to be believed then Shaakuntalam is going to be released on a digital platform, early than expected. Everyone knows that the OTT rights of the movie have been bagged by Amazon and seeing the worst performance of the movie at the box office, the streaming service has decided to premiere it in the second week of May, if the reports are to be believed.
When and Where to Watch Shaakuntalam
Amazon Prime has bagged the digital rights to the movie and if the rumours are to be believed then the movie will be released in the second week of May, a little earlier than expected. However, no official announcement of any kind has been made by the streaming service.
